WASHINGTON, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- FOSE 2003, the largest and longest-
running technology tradeshow for government professionals, announced the
Federal Executive Leadership Council events that will take place at FOSE,
April 8-10, 2003 in the new Washington, DC Convention Center.
"The Federal Executive Leadership Council program and events reflect
FOSE's commitment to being a thought leader in the government technology
market," said Bill Howell, Executive Vice President for PostNewsweek Tech
Media and General Manager of FOSE. "FOSE will once again be the forum for
government business leaders to gather, network and exchange ideas. This year,
as technology helps shrink the world around us, we are proud to welcome a
number of international governmental CIOs as an additional aspect of how we
learn about, discuss and ultimately improve the business of conducting
government electronically."
The Federal Executive Leadership Council -- comprised of the CIO Council,
the CFO Council, the Human Resources Management Council and the Procurement
Executives Council -- will hold its annual joint briefings on Wednesday, April
9. In addition to the annual briefings from each council, Steve Cooper, CIO,
Department of Homeland Security, will report on homeland security and Mark
Forman, Associate Director for IT and E-Gov, will lead a panel discussion on
the status of the President's E-Gov initiatives. These meetings are free and
open to all FOSE attendees.
As part of a North American CIO Day initiative at FOSE, a delegation of 10
governmental CIOs from Canada and 10 governmental CIOs from Mexico will join
the CIO Council and participate in the day's events. The CIO Council will
moderate a keynote discussion on Wednesday, April 9th from 9:00AM-9:45AM
entitled "E-Government in North America." Tom Temin, Executive Vice President,
PostNewsweek Tech Media, will host panelists Mark Forman, OMB; Michelle
D'Auray, CIO of Canada and Abraham Sotelo, CIO of Mexico.
The Federal Executive Leadership Council also uses FOSE's E-Town as a
platform for showcasing hands-on demonstrations to honor best-practice e-
government initiatives currently used by local, state, federal and
international governments. E-Town, presented by Accenture, is a working
replica of a town with a host of e-services available. This year, The Federal
Executive Leadership Council will recognize the best-practice solutions, the
Showcase of Excellence on display at E-Town, at an awards luncheon hosted by
E-Gov Czar Mark Forman at 11:30AM to 12:45PM on Wednesday, April 9.
Each year during FOSE, the CIO Council also hosts the Azimuth Awards
Dinner. At the gala dinner, the CIO Council and FOSE/PostNewsweek Tech Media,
present the Azimuth Award to a business executive from both government and
industry who demonstrates vision and outstanding service to the federal
information technology community. Last year's recipients were Jim Flyzik, CIO,
Department of Treasury and Anne K. Altman, Managing Director, US Federal, IBM.
This year's recipients will be announced at the dinner.
Adding to FOSE's focus on e-government, Accenture will present the 4th
Annual Report on e-Government Leadership during FOSE's inaugural keynote on
Tuesday, April 8, 2003 from 9:00AM to 9:45 AM. Stephen J. Rohleder, Group
Chief Executive of Accenture's Government Operating Group, will draw from this
report in his presentation entitled "Global e-Government Leadership: Charting
the Path to Progress."
Washington Technology will join FOSE's CIO-related activities by
sponsoring an exclusive conference for government and industry partners
beginning with lunch at 12:30 on Wednesday, April 9 entitled "Regs to Riches:
How to Keep Winning in a Radically New Government IT Buying Environment." The
afternoon involves a keynote lunch, a government-industry panel discussion,
attendance at the Federal Executive Leadership Council Briefings and a 4:00PM
networking reception with government business executives.
Rounding out the Federal Executive Leadership Council events at FOSE will
be a luncheon with Congressman Tom Davis (R-VA) on Thursday, April 10 from
11:30AM to 12:45PM and an executive breakfast with George Bohlinger, CIO, INS,
from 7:30AM to 8:45AM on Wednesday, April 9. Congressman Tom Davis, who will
speak at the lunch, is one of four co-chairs of the Information Technology
Working Group, a group he founded to promote better understanding of issues
important to the computer and technology industries. He currently serves as
the Chair of the House Government Reform Committee. George Bohlinger will
speak at the executive breakfast on the challenges of changing departments and
integrating the INS into the Department of Homeland Security.
FOSE will be the first event at the new Washington, DC Convention Center.
