Helps Global Clients Comply With Environmental Regulatory Standards,
Including ISO 14001; Manages Business-Critical Documents by Approved Tiered
Access to Users From Any Web Connection
LONDON, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Alfresco Software, Inc., the leader in
open source enterprise content management (ECM), today announced that
Synerge Group, a leading environmental regulatory compliance consultant,
has selected Alfresco's document management solution to provide tiered
access to time-critical regulatory and "right to know" documentation to its
worldwide customer base.
Synerge Group, located in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, provides professional
services to manufacturers and product designers of technical and chemical
products to ensure they have the proper documentation and procedures to
comply with environmental regulations around the world. Generally, the
group's clients manufacture products that have some inherent environmental
consequences or impact, or that produce certain manufacturing environmental
risks.
Synerge uses Alfresco as a document management and content repository
for each of its clients to store and properly manage the myriad
business-critical documents associated with environmental regulatory
information. A key to the system's unique properties is the ability to
confidentially review policies and procedures across department, corporate
and even international boundaries to achieve cross-functional consensus.
With Alfresco, Synerge's multiple clients have secure access to their own
information, while Synerge administers the back end. Each client has its
own custom access and repository.
"Alfresco allows us to create a digital library that keeps all of our
clients' documents and compliance paperwork organized and secure," said
Tracie M. Zamiska, system administrator, Synerge Group. "We can use
Alfresco's hierarchical security structure to allow contractors and
compliance officers to view only the necessary paperwork, instead of giving
them blanket access. Furthermore, Alfresco's guest option lets consumers
view all important public documentation without having to sign in."
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has set
environmental management standards (EMS) to help organizations minimize how
their operations negatively affect the environment, and to ensure
compliance with applicable laws, regulations and other environmental
requirements. ISO 14001 is the standard by which such organizations are
assessed. While the ISO defines itself as a non-governmental organization,
its ability to set standards that often become law, either through treaties
or national standards, makes it more powerful than most non-governmental
organizations. While all ISO standards are optional, they provide
guidelines for creating policies and procedures that help corporations stay
current with changes in the financial and environmental communities. These
constituencies are increasing their demands for accountability and
verification of suitable "right to know" policies.
Synerge Group provides its clients with the professional expertise to
complete EMS reports to comply with ISO 14001. By evaluating its clients'
current EMS and health and safety protocols, it provides risk management
and training support to help lead them toward compliance, and concurrently
updates their business standards and protocols to ensure ISO compliance.
Alfresco has seen major adoption of its open source ECM system
throughout the world. The company now has more than 300 customers,
including the American Stock Exchange, Boise Cascade, Christian Science
Monitor, Informa and the Nebraska State Legislature. The community version
of Alfresco's open source ECM has been downloaded 1 million times.
