Snap Server Products Address Mission-Critical Storage Needs
At Nellis Air Force Base
WASHINGTON, March 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Quantum Corp. (NYSE: DSS),
a leading provider of data protection and network storage systems, is
demonstrating at FOSE 2002 its complete line of Network Attached Storage (NAS)
products, including the recently announced portable Snap Server(R) 1100 and
rack-mountable Snap Server 4100, which was recently upgraded to provide
increased capacity. Quantum is showcasing its NAS appliances at FOSE Booth
#1340 from March 19-21, 2002 at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center.
"Federal IT spending is escalating at an incredible rate, and
administrators are finding that NAS appliances provide reliable solutions for
file archiving, data backups and portable field storage," said Jim Simon,
director of channel marketing for Quantum's Network Attached Storage Division.
"The Snap Server's low cost, ease of configuration and minimal maintenance
make it an attractive storage option for government agencies looking for
high-performance products that require little administration."
Air Force Base Relies on Quantum Snap Servers for Storage of Mission-
critical Data
The 414th Combat Training Squadron, known as RED FLAG, is based at Nellis
Air Force Base (AFB) in Nevada. American and Allied fighter pilots are
trained at the base through real world simulated combat. With five separate
training missions each year, Nellis AFB generates hundreds of gigabytes of
data that are critical to these missions. Don Wells, director of information
technologies for RED FLAG, needed a reliable, secure place to store this data.
"During training sessions, our computer operations center will support
more than 500 users, and we needed a place to store the large amounts of data
that are generated and shared by so many users," said Wells. "We added
multiple rack-mountable Snap Servers to provide a reliable storage repository
for the mission-critical data that is generated prior to and during these
training sessions."
