AHIP Foundation Announces 2007 Innovation and Excellence Award Winners

    WASHINGTON, March 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Health plans are
offering new and innovative programs to improve the quality of health care
in communities across the country. Tonight the AHIP Foundation paid tribute
to the winners of its Innovation and Excellence Award.

improving the accessibility, affordability, and quality of health care in

    Each year, academic and philanthropic leaders examine the vast array of
services offered by AHIP member companies and choose the very best to be
honored at the annual awards dinner. The Community Leadership Awards
showcase organizations that demonstrate excellence in community outreach by
identifying a specific problem in their community, establishing creative
paths to address the problem, and successfully leading community
partnerships toward collaborative solutions.
    2007 AHIP Foundation Community Leadership Award Winners
    Small/Independent Category:
    Independent Health Foundation for their Good for the Neighborhood
program, which brings healthy living training and learning tools to assist
people in managing their own health care more effectively and improving
their overall health.
    Large/Affiliated Category:
    Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas for their Care Van Program, an
innovative child immunization program where volunteers drive "mobile
immunization clinic" Blue Cross and Blue Shield Vans into local communities
to provide free- or reduced-cost immunizations to uninsured Texas children.
    Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. for their Health Care Interpreter
Certificate Program, a college-level training program designed to provide
quality accreditation standards for its interpreters while increasing
community and workforce capacity to serve patients with limited English
proficiency.
