SAN JOSE, Calif., March 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Hello Direct, Inc.
(Nasdaq: HELO), the leading developer and direct marketer of desktop telephony
and equipment interface products, today announced the immediate availability
of the free Hello Direct Intranet service. The service allows small and
medium sized companies to set up their own private space on the web where
employees can easily access and share documents, calendars, and event
information. The service is easy to set up, simple to use, and comes complete
with free applications (group calendars, shared documents, and company-wide
announcements).
Customers can set up their intranets by visiting the Hello Direct home
page at http://www.hellodirect.com. The Intranet Service is provided over the
Internet and requires no customer outlay for software, servers, or an internal
company network. Participants in the Intranet need only have access to the
World Wide Web. Yet the Intranet Service is completely secure and only grants
access to those to whom the company delivers a password.
Although independent studies demonstrate that intranet deployment returns
an outstanding yield on investment, small to medium-sized businesses and
organizations typically do not have the resources to develop these
applications themselves.
While many single location companies will use the service, the capability
is especially valuable to companies with multiple sites or with employees who
work from remote locations. The service is accessible from any computer at
any time of the day or night. The same service can also readily support
extranets (private virtual networks shared with suppliers, customers, or other
business partners). Each customer is able to customize its intranet with a
free unique domain name.
"The Hello Direct Intranet Service is an important element in our strategy
of expanding the products and services we offer our customers on the Web,"
said Michael Young, VP, CIO, and chief-Ebusiness officer of Hello Direct.
"The Intranets service joins the free universal messaging, teleconference set-
up, and auction services already available on the HelloDirect.com Web site.
We look forward to adding more valuable services to our customers."
The Hello Direct Intranet Service is enabled and supported by
Intranets.com ( http://www.intranets.com ), the first company to provide a completely
free hosted intranet to organizations worldwide. As of March 20, 2000
Intranets.com had set up over 135,000 customer intranets in the less than
eight months since launching the concept.
