Ocean Energy Announces Management Changes

    HOUSTON, March 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ocean Energy, Inc. (NYSE: OEI)
announced today that Scott A. Griffiths has been appointed senior vice
president - Exploration & International New Ventures; and James H. Painter has
been appointed senior vice president - Gulf of Mexico & International
Exploration.
    In his expanded role, Griffiths will be responsible for worldwide
exploration, reporting to John D. Schiller, executive vice president -
Exploration & Production.  For the last three years, Griffiths has served as
vice president - International Exploration.  He has been with the company for
12 years starting with Global Natural Resources and has served in a variety of
management and geoscience positions.  He began his career with Shell Oil
Company.
    Prior to his promotion, Painter was vice president - exploration and
development, Gulf of Mexico.  In his new assignment, he also assumes
exploration oversight for Ocean's international operations, reporting to
Griffiths.  Painter has been with the company since 1995 in management and
geoscience roles in the Gulf of Mexico.  He was formerly with Forest Oil
Corporation and The Superior Oil Company.
