HOUSTON, March 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- To help Houston-area customers
better manage high summer energy bills, Reliant Energy (NYSE: RRI) is offering
an electricity plan that will enable consumers to receive up to $200 in bill
credits over four months if summer temperatures in Houston exceed historical
averages.
The product is called the One-Year Secure Plan with Heat Relief, which
allows customers to:
1) lock in pricing for 12 months, avoiding seasonal adjustments when
consumers generally use more electricity;
2) eliminate the monthly service charge;
3) take advantage of the Heat Relief feature, in which customers will
receive a $50 monthly bill credit for each summer month (June, July,
August and September) that the average daily high temperature in
Houston is at least 2 degrees warmer than the historical average for
that month.
With Heat Relief, if all four months are at least 2 degrees warmer than
normal, customers can receive a total of $200 in bill credits. The product is
currently available for Houston-area residential customers.
The historical daily high temperature average in Houston is based on 1996-
2005 data from the National Climatic Data Center at George Bush
Intercontinental Airport. For June, that number is 91.1 degrees. If the
temperature is at least 2 degrees warmer (93.1 degrees) based on verified data
from the National Weather Service Forecast Office at Bush Intercontinental for
that month, then a customer would receive a $50 bill credit.
The National Climatic Data Center historical daily high temperature
average for Houston for June is 91.1; July 94.2; August 94.4 and September
89.8.
