PITTSBURGH, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation (PENNDOT) today selected the winners in its Free Parking for
You contest. The contest allows motorists traveling to work in downtown
Pittsburgh free parking along the closed 10th Street Bypass for next nine
months.
Ray Hack, P.E., PENNDOT's district engineer stated, "While the Sports &
Exhibition Authority expands the convention center and has the 10th Street
Bypass closed, PENNDOT wanted to take the opportunity to give something back
to the motorists of Pittsburgh. What a better way than to offer free parking
in a city where parking is a premium."
Motorists were encouraged to mail a postcard to PENNDOT or enter through
http://www.epenndot.com. Winners were chosen at random from over 2000 registrants
and must attend one of two informational meetings on Friday, March 23, 2001.
At the meetings, held in the conference center of Two Gateway Center, winners
will receive their parking passes and information pertaining to the logistics
of parking along the 10th Street Bypass. Parking along the roadway will begin
Tuesday, March 27, 2001.
The 10th Street Bypass will be closed until October 2001 for the expansion
and construction of the new David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
Motorists can obtain information regarding the Fort Pitt Bridge and Tunnel
project and the Route 28 project at http://www.epenndot.com or by calling
