HOUSTON, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Ocean Energy, Inc. (NYSE: OEI) announced
today that Alan L. Smith has been appointed vice president, business
development.
In the new position, Smith will head a centralized business development
function to enhance the company's strategic growth efforts, focusing on
potential mergers and acquisitions.
Smith joined Ocean Energy in 1999 serving in a dual role as business
development manager and exploitation manager -- Anadarko area in the North
America Onshore division. Prior to Ocean, Smith was vice president of
acquisitions for XPLOR Energy, where he negotiated and closed multiple
transactions. Smith has more than 15 years of diverse oil and gas experience
and has held various technical and managerial positions of increasing
responsibility with ARCO, Vastar Resources, Burlington Resources and Ryder
Scott.
Smith graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science
degree in petroleum engineering. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum
Engineers, Independent Petroleum Association of America, Texas Independent
Producers & Royalty Owners Association and the Houston Producers' Forum.
