U.S. Navy Selects Java(TM) System Application Server Standard Edition 7 for Top Command and Control Program

    FOSE 2004 - WASHINGTON, March 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sun
Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) announced today that the U.S. Navy's Program
Executive Office for Command, Control, Computer, Communications, Intelligence
and Space (PEO C4I and Space) has selected the Sun Java(TM) System Application
Server Standard Edition 7 to run all Global Command and Control -- Maritime
(GCCS-M) deployments beginning in fiscal year 2005.  Ultimately, more than 200
naval vessels are scheduled to be fitted with the server during a four-year
installation period.
    The Sun Java(TM) System Application Server Standard Edition 7 will run on
the Solaris(TM) 9 Operating System and be deployed on UltraSPARC(R)
technology. It was selected over competitor products because of Sun's
adherence to the Java(TM) 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE(TM) platform)
specifications and its commitment to security. The Solaris(TM) 9 Operating
System and the Sun Java(TM) System Application Server Standard Edition 7 have
been submitted for Common Criteria Certification.
