WASHINGTON, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- FOSE 2004 -- Help Desk Technology
Corporation has upgraded its HelpSTAR help desk software to provide
integration with Active Directory Services, plus an enhanced Web interface for
end users that exploits the capabilities of Microsoft.NET to increase ease of
use. HelpSTAR v8.1 will be available for download at http://www.helpstar.com on
March 31.
The Active Directory integration enables administrators to quickly import
groups of users from Active Directory Services. This streamlines setup and
administration, enables new departments to be automatically created in
HelpSTAR when they are imported from ADS, and eliminates the need for users to
enter a username and password to log onto the HelpSTAR interface. In
addition, new users and other changes to ADS can be automatically propagated
to HelpSTAR to keep the database updated and allow new users to log in without
waiting for the next sync.
The new .NET-based end user Web interface simplifies and speeds navigation
for employees who are using HelpSTAR's online capabilities to report computer
problems, check job status, or search for do-it-yourself problem fixes. The
upgrade includes new "local tasks" and "dynamic help" buttons on each screen
that allow end users to access window-specific tasks and assistance without
moving to other screens or scrolling through a complete help menu.
Administrators can configure HelpSTAR to display either the legacy or the
new Web interface, depending on whether their client systems can support the
.NET platform. The new interface will be available in French and Spanish as
well as English.
These enhancements combine with HelpSTAR's existing functionality and fast
out-of-the-box deployment to streamline problem resolution, maximize IT
uptime, and minimize help desk costs. The package is designed for use by mid-
sized corporations and divisions of large enterprises with between 10 and 100
support reps servicing 100 to 10,000 employees.
"HelpSTAR's integration with Active Directory will be extremely useful in
minimizing administrative overhead related to enabling new users and updating
user information in the HelpSTAR database, and the new end user Web interface
will help increase usability for our employees," said Bill Myers, Network
Administrator for Time Warner Cable. "With these ongoing enhancements,
HelpSTAR continues to play a valuable role in helping us keep our computer
systems in good working order."
