LONDON, March 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CMP Information, one of the
UK's leading B2B media companies, is launching an extensive new graduate
training scheme and Bursary programme starting in September 2004. The scheme
will offer six graduates the chance to enrol in a one-year graduate
traineeship in September 2004. Two GBP10,000 journalism bursaries are also
being offered.
CMPi, which has more than 30 UK-based publications, is inviting
applications for the graduate trainee scheme from applicants who have a
post-graduate journalism qualification and have gained work experience with
several print-related companies. The six successful candidates will join the
company to work across their leading weekly titles in September. These
publications include Building, Pulse, Travel Trade Gazette, Music Week,
Housing Today, Farmers Guardian, Printing World and Property Week.
CMP Information, which is the UK-headquartered professional media
division of United Business Media plc, has a track record of offering
graduate trainee schemes. In the 70s and 80s when known as Morgan Grampian,
it offered a highly respected training scheme and from September 2000, the
Builder Group also offered a graduate trainee scheme. Both these companies
are now part of CMP Information.
Several current CMPi editors began their careers on the Morgan Grampian
graduate trainee scheme, including Giles Barrie and Adrian Barrick - a
three-times winner of the BSME Editor of the Year Award. Two of the graduates
who joined the company on the recent Builder Group scheme are now assistant
editors and another is a news editor.
The company is linking with City University to offer two bursaries on the
post-graduate diploma in magazine journalism starting in the autumn of 2004.
The successful candidates will gain work experience at CMP Information in the
holidays and will take two of the six graduate trainee places at the company
in September 2005. The GBP10,000 bursary will cover their university fees,
pay them for their work experience and provide an additional contribution to
their living costs.
City founded its journalism school 28 years ago and has a reputation as
the leading journalism school in the UK. It has been an excellent springboard
for hundreds of journalists over the years. CMP Information has created the
bursary scheme to enable outstanding candidates to take advantage of the
course, who may otherwise be unable to afford to do so.
Commenting on the scheme, Bernard Gray, Chief Executive of CMPi said;
"Good journalists are the foundation of our magazines. As a company, we are
committed to investing in our publications and in their continued excellent
reputation and quality. The graduate training scheme and bursary programme
will enable us to develop and nurture editorial talent within the group as
well as offering a first class working experience to all successful
applicants."
