Municipality of Anchorage Expected to Save $12,000 a Month After Signing Contract With Alaska DigiTel

    ANCHORAGE, Alaska, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Wireless carrier Alaska
DigiTel announced today a service contract with the Municipality of Anchorage,
which will save the city an estimated $12,000 a month.
    The contract, which drops the average per-minute cost of cellular service
from the current 16 cents per minute to just 4 cents per minute, is for an
estimated 600 lines.  Those employees expected to benefit from the service
reside in the Police and Fire Departments, the Department of Transportation,
and the Mayor's Office.
    Alaska DigiTel was selected after exhaustive bidding process, beating out
Alaskan Communications Systems and Dobson Communications, which owns Cellular
One.  It won the account, in large part, because of its competitive pricing on
phone plans, attractively priced phones for city employees and their families,
and flexibility in billing options.
    As part of the package, municipal employees receive a car charger, belt
clip and ear bud.  When municipal employees receive their new phones, they
will receive active phones with their previous numbers ported into the Alaska
DigiTel network.  Furthermore, Alaska DigiTel included free system-wide
mobile-to-mobile calling for the customer's family, giving these new customers
another great way to save money.
