Merrill Lynch Names Doris Meister Chairman, Merrill Lynch Trust

       Executive to Head Firm's $90.7 Billion National Trust Operation

    NEW YORK, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Merrill Lynch & Co. today announced
Doris P. Meister, formerly Executive Vice President and Managing Director of
Fleet Financial's Private Clients Group, has been named Chairman of Merrill
Lynch Trust.  Ms. Meister will be responsible for overseeing all activities
and strategic growth of the Merrill Lynch trust business, which provides
personal trust, employee-benefit trust, custodial and philanthropic services
to help clients efficiently manage their assets and meet their financial and
estate planning objectives.

    With more than $90.7 billion in trust assets, Merrill Lynch was one of the
first brokerage firms to offer trust services to clients nationwide after
obtaining a federal savings bank charter in 1997.  Merrill Lynch began
offering trust services in 1987 with the opening of Merrill Lynch Trust
Company in New Jersey and then expanded its state trust charters to include
Florida, Illinois, California, Texas, Michigan, North Carolina, and New
York.
    Ms. Meister, who joined Fleet in 1997, ran the group responsible for
providing financial services to affluent clients with at least $500,000 in
investable assets.  Her prior experience includes serving as Managing Director
and division head at AEW Capital Management; Executive Vice President and
Chief Operating Officer of Christie's auction house, and head of CS First
Boston's Fixed Income Research Group and Portfolio Strategies Department.
    Ms. Meister holds a BA in Economics from Smith College and an MBA from The
University of Chicago, where she specialized in marketing and finance.  She is
a member of the Women's Forum and the Committee of 200.  She supports numerous
not-for-profit organizations and is a member of the boards of ArtsConnection
and Young Audiences.
