New Testing Technology Will Strengthen Rational's Comprehensive Development
Solution for Software Project Teams Developing Java and Web-based Business
Applications
SAN FRANCISCO, March 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- At the 2002 JavaOne
Conference, Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL) will preview a new automated
Java(TM) testing technology that will dramatically increase the resiliency of
tests as applications go through multiple revisions. This new functional and
regression testing technology will strengthen Rational's complete lifecycle
software development solution for software project teams developing Java and
Web-based business applications.
Rational's new Adaptive Test Playback technology will provide the
industry's first self-correcting object recognition, which significantly
reduces the need to update existing tests throughout the application's
lifecycle. With shortened testing times and typical automated test tools,
many advanced testing organizations face the challenge of needing to
continuously re-align automated test scripts with objects that have changed in
new builds and versions of the software.
Rational's Adaptive Test Playback technology can automatically find target
objects in Java and Web-based applications without the need for human
intervention and time-consuming object re-mapping. This provides more
reliable testing. Rational's new testing technology will be previewed in
Rational's booth (#736) at JavaOne. Additional information on this new
technology is available at http://www.rational.com/testjava .
Gartner, a leading analyst firm, anticipates that Java will continue to be
the fastest growing language and will exceed 2.5 million developers by 2005.
Rational's software development solutions liberate Java developers, testers,
and other members of Java development teams from the sometimes chaotic and
unproductive activities that can delay development projects, enabling them to
create innovative software and project teams to achieve their goals.
In addition to the Adaptive Test Playback technology being previewed
today, Rational's complete lifecycle solution enables Java and J2EE(TM)
developers to design, model and code in one eXtended Development Environment
with Rational(R) XDE(TM) Professional v2002: Java Platform Edition. Announced
in February 2002, Rational XDE Professional v2002: Java Platform Edition is
integrated into IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer and the IBM Eclipse
Java-based integrated development environments (IDE).
Rational's Java solution also enables developers to find and eliminate
runtime errors, memory leaks and performance issues. Rational facilitates
communication in software teams by providing development tools for defect
tracking, requirements management, software configuration management, test
management, and development process guidance. Rational has augmented its
complete lifecycle software development solution with comprehensive training,
services, and a Web-based community to ensure the success of project teams
building Java-based business applications.
Last year, Rational founded jRoundup (http://www.jroundup.com), an online
Java development community that currently has over 15,000 subscribers and
offers Java practitioners a comprehensive collection of original and
previously presented and published Java-related materials. Within the past
year, Rational products have also received a number of industry awards for
Java development tools. Java Developer's Journal recognized Rational Rose(R)
as the Best Modeling Tool, Rational(R) TeamTest as the Best Testing Tool, and
Rational(R) Quantify(R) as the Best Profiling Tool. JavaPro readers also
named Rational Rose the Best Modeling Tool.
To help Rational provide developers and development teams with
comprehensive solutions that increase the speed, quality and predictability of
their software development projects on the Java platform, Rational has
long-standing, strategic relationships with leading providers of Java
solutions, such as IBM, Sun, BEA and Borland.
Additional information on Rational's support for the Java platform and
relationships with these industry leaders is available at

"Rational has been dedicated to providing Java development teams with a
powerful software development solution for creating mission-critical business
applications," said Eric Schurr, senior vice president of marketing, Rational
Software. "We think testers are going to like the Adaptive Test Playback
technology because they'll save a great deal of time as they test each
iteration of their Java and Web-based applications. Our solution for Java
development teams liberates them from the chaos often prevalent during the
traditional software development process."
Rational's speakers at the 2002 JavaOne conference will include: Goran
Begic, technical marketing engineer; Geoff Clemm, chief engineer; Bill Graham,
embedded Java evangelist; and Wojtek Kozaczynski, director of architecture and
application frameworks. Additional detail on their sessions is available at
http://www.sun.com/javaone .
Rational's Adaptive Test Playback technology will also be previewed in
Rational's booth (#1) at the Spring 2002 Software Test Automation Conference,
which will be held March 27-28, 2002 in San Jose, Calif.
