SAN JOSE, Calif. - Game Developers Conference - March 25
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Discreet, a division of Autodesk, Inc.
(Nasdaq: ADSK), continues to expand educational opportunities for 3D animators
with its 3ds max(R) software as the 3D animation software of choice. An
increasing number of top universities and educational institutions and
Discreet-certified Training Centers (DTCs) in over 30 countries offer courses
in Discreet's 3ds max animation software to meet the rapidly growing demand
for 3ds max-trained animators for film, television, visualization and game
development.

A vast array of educational alternatives -- from on-site training, DVDs
and online (e-Learning) modules -- are available both from Discreet and third-
party vendors. Discreet offers short-term, focused training sessions for 3ds
max in over 100 Discreet certified Training Centers (DTCs) in 30 countries. To

"Job opportunities for 3ds max artists in the 3D gaming, visual effects
and design visualization industry are at an all time high," said Marc Petit,
vice president of product development at Discreet. "That's why Discreet's
investment in education is paramount -- as tomorrow's animators discover the
vast learning resources and institutions that help them build a satisfying and
lucrative career," said Petit.
Two of Discreet's prominent training institutions helping educate and
prepare students for a career in 3D animation are the University of Southern
California's Viterbi School of Engineering and The Art Institutes, a top media
training institution that has over 5,000 Discreet software licenses in 26 of
its locations in the United States and Canada.
"As the demand for 3D design visualization, PC, console and mobile games,
and visual effects continues to grow, USC realized that we must offer a
curriculum that prepares its students for this industry that is projected to
deliver over $11 billion in electronic gaming software in 2004," said Anthony
Borquez, director of the Information Technology Program at University of
Southern California's Viterbi School of Engineering. "By offering courses in
Discreet 3ds max animation software, we know that the students who pursue our
3D Animation minor will begin their career with a broad skill base to get a
job with all the disciplines needed to create compelling 3D content and move
the needle in 3D animation," said Borquez.
"We use 3ds max extensively at The Art Institutes as part of our 3D
curriculum. We chose Discreet's 3ds max software because it is a very powerful
and highly accessible package. It is one of the few professional 3D tools that
our students can afford to work with outside of school," commented Vi Ly,
Academic Director in the Media Arts & Animation Department and Game Art Design
Department at The Art Institutes, Los Angeles, CA. "Incorporating 3ds max was
also a practical choice for us. We want to teach our students skills that
will help them get jobs based on the fact that many of our students' future
employers in effects, animation and game development are using Discreet 3ds
max software."
The push for 3ds max training is stronger than ever as Discreet 3ds max
software is used in production of nearly 80% of all video games including Tom
Clancy's Splinter Cell by Ubisoft, Halo 2 for Microsoft Xbox by Bungie
Software and the exciting cinematic opening of Onimusha 3 by Capcom. Discreet
3ds max software is being used increasingly for feature film effects on such
Hollywood blockbusters as The Last Samurai, X2: Xmen United, Scooby Doo and
Scooby Doo 2 and 3D elements rendered to look like 2D hand-drawn segments in
The Triplets of Belleville.
On-line e-Learning modules, available from Discreet, are continually
updated, and available to 3ds max subscription customers as free downloads.
Non Subscription customers can purchase individual 3ds max training modules
for less than US $10. "Learning Discreet 3ds max 6" is a recent virtual
training workshop by noted 3D authority George Maestri, released by Lynda.com
on DVD or streamed from the website.
