GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., March 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
BestNet Communications Corp. (OTC Bulletin Board: BESC), an emerging provider
of Internet-based telecom solutions, today announced it has engaged New York
City-based Brown Raysman Millstein Felder & Steiner LLP, one of the nation's
leading high technology patent law practices, to represent the Company in its
intellectual property management strategy.
Brown Raysman, whose high-tech patent practice includes Fortune 100
companies in the U.S. and abroad, will work with BestNet to aggressively
manage the Company's intellectual property assets through licensing agreements
and, if necessary, litigation.
BestNet, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based provider of Internet-based telecom
solutions, said it hired Brown Raysman to provide strategies and tactical
recommendations on enforcement of its patents related to the Company's
Bestnetcall (http://www.bestnetcall.com ) service and its use of packet technology.
The Bestnetcall service uses the Web to launch deeply discounted long distance
calls that are connected via regular phone lines. Customers in more than 120
countries currently use Bestnetcall, which requires no changes to existing
phone systems or any special hardware or software to operate. Corporate
customers can save up to 70 percent on international long-distance using
Bestnetcall.
"Our patents on our long distance and conference calling technology are a
significant source of shareholder value," said Robert Blanchard, BestNet
President and CEO. "As such, we are launching an aggressive strategy of both
controlling and capitalizing on our intellectual property assets. We have
identified at least 40 companies, including some high profile and rapidly
growing technology/telecom players, which we believe are currently infringing
on our patents. We are beginning immediately to pursue means of maximizing
these assets."
Brown Raysman partner Richard Raysman added: "While further analysis needs
to be done, it is clear that BestNet's patents appear to be solid and
enforceable. We look forward to putting our decades of telecom and Internet
patent experience to work for BestNet and helping them leverage their
proprietary technology."
