High Powered Tags Enable Each and Every Asset to be Reliably and
Economically Tagged for Efficiency and Security
DALLAS, March 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AXCESS International Inc.
(OTC Bulletin Board: AXSI), a leading provider of Dual-Active(TM) Radio
Frequency Identification (RFID) and Real Time Location Systems (RTLS)
solutions today introduced a new, smaller wireless RFID tag designed to
automatically track and protect enterprise assets. The tag form factor is
the smallest battery powered "active" RFID tag currently available, with
the capability of being automatically identified and located at doorways
and other control points without human intervention. The new tag is unique
in that it has been designed with the ability of attaching to even the most
difficult to read metal-laden objects, such as laptops and other computer
equipment. The addition of the product to AXCESS' broad portfolio of tags
means that every item in the enterprise can now be tracked with small low
cost tags, providing efficiency across a business. The small tag is
expected to speed the market acceptance of RFID in the tagging of
enterprise assets where small form factors and reliable tag reads are
mandated by customers. Demonstrations of the tag will be held in the AXCESS
booth #801 at the RFID World Conference in Dallas, March 27-29th.
"The real ROI in asset management comes from being able to reliably and
automatically tag items to identify, locate, track and protect them
on-demand and in real time," said Allan Griebenow, president and CEO of
AXCESS. "Many systems tag large and wireless-friendly objects but that as a
stand alone solution is not enough. With AXCESS' proprietary RFID
technology it becomes possible to tag any item in the enterprise, which can
be read automatically and with certainty."
The tag is based on AXCESS' robust ActiveTag(TM) system which is unique
in its ability to reliably and automatically read RFID tags attached to
many kinds of assets that are often very difficult for RFID systems to
read. RF signals are absorbed and altered by metal objects and water, which
makes reliable reading difficult unless specially engineered. The patented
AXCESS system uses a low RF frequency band to wake up the sleeping tags,
then sends their tag IDs and their location using a highly robust frequency
over long range, called "Dual-Active(TM)" operation. Waking up tags at
specific locations is a unique aspect of the system's "Control Point"
architecture where these points define zones throughout the enterprise. An
asset's location is precisely identified and the asset is tracked
throughout the zones, which can be customized in size from a single room to
an area of an open warehouse. For location determination, the Control Point
architecture has been proven to be more reliably accurate and more cost
effective than signal measurement approaches.
AXCESS' patented ActiveTag(TM) RFID/RTLS and sensing systems use small,
battery-powered tags (generically called "Dual-Active(TM)" tags) that when
automatically activated, transmit a wireless message typically 30 to 100
feet to hidden palm size receivers. The receivers are connected via
standard network simultaneously to the enterprise system software, the
existing security alarm equipment, and standalone middleware and end-user
software provided by AXCESS under the OnlineSurpervisor(TM) label. The
systems are used for a variety of enterprise productivity applications
including automatic personnel access control and tracking, automatic
vehicle access control and payload management, automatic asset management
and protection, as well as special purpose sensing. Automatic
exception-based email alerting and paging is offered for rapid response to
security related incidents. Additional information is available on the
