Raytheon and Its Employees to Contribute $7 Million to United Way in 2001

    LEXINGTON, Mass., March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company announced
today that together the company and its employees will contribute more than
$7 million to the United Way of America in 2001. Nationwide, the contribution
will benefit 470 community-based United Ways.
    Overall, Raytheon employees contributed $5 million.  The company
contributed an additional $2 million to 32 United Ways based in communities
where the company has a significant presence.  By location, Raytheon's largest
contributions were posted in Kansas, Massachusetts, Texas, Arizona and
California. United Way organizations in Kansas, Massachusetts and Texas will
receive more than $1 million apiece from Raytheon and its employees.
    "Our employees continue to demonstrate their generosity year after year,"
said Daniel P. Burnham, Raytheon's chairman and chief executive officer.
"Through our contributions we seek to address important health and human
services needs in the communities where our employees live and work."
    Raytheon has developed a close relationship with the United Way to build
connections between the company and the community.  Raytheon employees support
the United Way by contributing either a fixed dollar amount or a percentage of
their pay via a payroll deduction.

caring," United Way of America Acting President Chris Amundsen said.  "Today's
announcement is a wonderful example of how corporations and their employees
can address pressing issues through United Way to strengthen communities

    Highlights of Raytheon's top five 2001 United Way contributions:
    Kansas
    -- Raytheon contributed more than $1.7 million to 14 community-
    based United Ways
    Massachusetts
    -- Raytheon contributed more than $1.3 million to 27
    community-based United Ways
    Texas
    -- Raytheon contributed more than $1.2 million to 60 community-based
    United Ways
    Arizona
    -- Raytheon contributed more than $850,000 to 9 community-based
    United Ways
    California
    -- Raytheon contributed more than $750,000 to 32 community-
    based United Ways
