ATLANTA, March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy LLP
will be co-sponsoring a Bioscience Conference entitled Growing Georgia's
Bioscience Industries: Harnessing the Resources of Higher Education, Business
and Government on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at the Loudermilk Center for the
Regional Community. Other sponsors include the Atlanta Regional Consortium
for Higher Education, Georgia Research Alliance, Metro Atlanta Chamber of
Commerce, Georgia's Intellectual Capital Partnership Program, and the Center
for Disease Control.
Arn Rubinoff, Partner of Powell Goldstein commented, "This is a conference
on biosciences and on working relationships between higher education,
business, and government that can help grow the bioscience industries.
Bioscience has the potential to be a core industry for Atlanta and Georgia,
which can generate economic growth not only in it's own right, but also for
suppliers, service providers and associated institutions. Michael Porter a
Harvard Professor would define biosciences or biotech as an economic cluster
based on innovation. The Metro Atlanta Chamber would call biosciences "an
industry of the mind". By whatever name we can all agree that there can be a
strong and positive impact for growing biosciences for the larger economy and
collective prosperity of all of us who drive and work in Atlanta, GA. This
may be the principle economic sector where a teaming of university research
and private industry are critical for its success and it is the goal of this
conference to facilitate this teaming effort."
The program will run from 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Featured speakers
include Louis W. Sullivan, the President of Morehouse School of Medicine, Hans
Gant, Senior Vice President for Economic Development of the Metro Atlanta
Chamber of Commerce, Russell M. Medford, President and CEO of AtheroGenics,
Thomas C. Meredith, Chancellor of the University System of Georgia and C.
Andrew Watkins, Technology Transfer Director for the CDC. For more
