CHESTER, Pa., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Business, civic and community
leaders in Delaware County came together Saturday night and raised more than
$120,000 for the first Habitat for Humanity of Delaware County Blitz Build, a
project to build two twin homes (four living units) during one week in June.
Funds were raised at a black tie event co-hosted by Coldwell Banker
Preferred, DeLuca Homes, and Wells Fargo & Company at The Wharf at RiverTown
and attended by more than 350 guests. Habitat President Charles Lee announced
that the event had raised the funds through donations, ticket sales, and a
silent auction of more than 60 donated items.
"Homeownership builds communities, promotes personal well-being and
independence, and helps sustain good citizenship. We sincerely thank Habitat
for Humanity, Wells Fargo, Coldwell Banker Preferred, DeLuca Homes and all the
other sponsors for helping to build hope in the City of Chester, one house at
a time," said City of Chester Mayor Wendell N. Butler, Jr.
"An event like tonight's "Putting on the Blitz" is truly important in
meeting our goals and we commend Habitat for Humanity and Wells Fargo for
their dedication and hard work in making this event a huge success. We also
thank all of the sponsors and attendees for their generosity and commitment to
helping deserving families realize their dream of becoming homeowners," he
continued.
Charles Lee, Habitat Board of Trustee president who coordinated this
effort, added: "Habitat provides low-income families with the opportunity to
own decent and affordable homes, often for the first time in their lives. I am
pleased and thankful for the tremendous support we received at the Gala for
our upcoming Blitz Build project. Four more families in the Delaware County
area can now look forward to living in four new homes this summer!"
Lee also thanked DeLuca Homes for donating the foundations for the four
homes, a contribution equaling $40,000 to the fundraising total.
Coldwell Banker Preferred's Chairman & CEO, Harry Caparo who presented a
contribution for $50,000 on behalf of Coldwell Banker Preferred said,
"Our real estate professionals are committed to helping Habitat for Humanity
deliver the American dream of homeownership. Affordable housing is key to
helping low-income families establish themselves and those of us in the real
estate industry are in an ideal position to assist those in need by helping to
build a home in which they can live and flourish."
The black tie event concept was conceived by Gary Lorenz, a Habitat
volunteer and president of Wells Fargo Auto Finance.
"Wells Fargo is proud of our longstanding partnership with Habitat for
Humanity. Together we have made a difference in the lives of nearly 2,000
families nationwide. We are honored to take a leadership role in hosting this
event in partnership with the Chester community," said Lorenz.
