FSMLabs Performance Leadership Scales to Support IWILL 8-way / 16 core AMD Opteron(TM) Server

Hard Real-Time Advanced Compact Server Platform Ideal for High-End Simulation
and Other Applications in Aerospace, Manufacturing, Telecom, and

    SOCORRO, N.M., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- FSMLabs
( http://www.fsmlabs.com ), a mission-critical software developer, announced
that it has completed weeks of rigorous performance testing on the IWILL H8502
high performance server testing FSMlabs' RTCore technology and is obtaining
exceptionally impressive performance on the 8-way 16-core AMD Opteron system.
The combination of FSMLabs' hard real-time RTCore and off-the-shelf enterprise
class BSD and Linux operating systems is designed to service the extreme
demands of applications with requirements for both true deterministic response
and heavy compute loads. These applications include machine-in-loop
simulation, real-time 3D display, time-critical manufacturing and industrial
control, QoS-sensitive communications, and guaranteed transaction times in
financial services.
FSMLabs' RTCore technology scales seamlessly from single processor systems
to multi-core silicon including the impressive 8-way / 16 core platform
recently introduced by IWILL. "Running on eight dual core chips in a single
box really highlights the flexibility of RTLinux and the utility of the
dynamic processor reservation scheme in RTCore," said Cort Dougan, FSMLabs
Director of Engineering. FSMLabs "processor reservation" technology permits
real-time threads to set aside processors exclusively for real-time operations
(typically data plane), while remaining CPU resources are shared among threads
in enterprise-type loads (control and management plane). The optimal
allocation of CPU power reduces worst case interrupt latencies on high end
processors like AMD Opteron from under 10 microseconds to less than 2
microseconds.
"RTCore on AMD Opteron yields truly spectacular real-time response,"
commented FSMLabs CEO Victor Yodaiken. "To support the widest range of
customer applications in networking, aerospace and control, FSMlabs offers the
same performance edge with both Linux and BSD."
"FSMLabs support for IWILL high-performance servers complements IWILL's
commitment to deliver high performance hardware to the server marketplace,"
said Adam Chou, general manager, IWILL USA. "RTCore extends IWILL platform
capabilities to meet the needs of demanding real-time application in the
enterprise and beyond."

See RTCore Performance at ESC 2006. FSMLabs will be exhibiting RTCoreBSD
and RTLinux software in the AMD Booth (#1716) at the Embedded Systems
Conference in the San Jose Convention Center, April 3-7 2006.

    Real-time Performance Edge
FSMLabs RTLinuxPro and RTCoreBSD let developers meet requirements for
low-latency hard real-time responsiveness without sensitivity to application
load for a wide range of CPU clock rates. Worst case interrupt latencies range
from under 2 microseconds on AMD Opteron processor to 20 on low-power 100Mhz
ARM9 devices. These measurements are computed while Linux or BSD guest
operating systems are fully loaded and servicing heavy network traffic. By
comparison, native Linux and BSD offer limited real-time performance, with
response times for comparable operations measured in terms of milliseconds,
not microseconds.
The RTCore host/guest architecture enables developers of intelligent
devices to build high-reliability systems and to support the ever-increasing
software content on those devices. Application developers can take advantage
of the RTLinux and RTCoreBSD models by using standard Linux and BSD
applications and services in conjunction with POSIX 1003.13 real-time code
that runs in the RTCore environment. Real-time code can migrate freely between
execution on RTCore and Linux/BSD clients, giving customers true OS choice.
