Self-wrapping oversleeve provides flexible, lightweight electromagnetic
interference (EMI) shielding and abrasion protection

EXTON, Pa., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Automotive design engineers at major
original equipment manufacturers and Tier One wire harness suppliers are
improving the electromagnetic shielding and mechanical protection of their
products with Federal-Mogul Corporation's TwistTube(R) 2470.

TwistTube 2470, the first textile-based sleeving product to provide
electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection, is designed to protect panel
harnesses, DVD, satellite, and radio harnesses, and battery cables.
TwistTube 2470 prevents electromagnetic waves, which could emit from
surrounding electronic equipment, from negatively impacting the function of
the wires it protects.
Woven with polyester and metallized nylon yarns as well as a tinned
copper dual drain wire, TwistTube 2470's flexible, lightweight design offers
long-lasting protection. Unlike foils and films, the woven fabric of
TwistTube 2470 is durable and tear-resistant. TwistTube 2470 withstands
temperatures from -70 degrees Celsius to +125 degrees Celsius and retains more
than 70 percent of its original breaking strength in typical automotive
fluids. Comparative testing between TwistTube 2470 and various shielded
cables show that the TwistTube 2470 provides superior shielding protection.
In addition, the TwistTube 2470 saves manufacturers time and money.
Because of its self-wrapping design, automotive design engineers can quickly
and easily install TwistTube 2470 over completed assemblies, and can
accommodate necessary breakouts.
"We designed and manufactured TwistTube 2470 to not only withstand the
harsh automotive environment, but to provide design engineers with the utmost
electromagnetic shielding and abrasion protection," said Phil Marks,
automotive applications engineer Systems Protection, Federal-Mogul. "Its
flexibility and ease of installation provide overall cost benefits, while its
balanced abrasion protection extends the overall life of the components being
protected."
TwistTube 2470 is also available in a tubular form for applications where
a wrap product is not optimal.
