Aasia Mustakeem Elected to American College of Real Estate Lawyers

    ATLANTA, April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy LLP
announced today that partner Aasia Mustakeem has been elected to the American
College of Real Estate Lawyers.  This was her first nomination to the College
and she was the only Georgia attorney to be elected this year.  Ms. Mustakeem
becomes the Firm's fourth ACREL member, joining Jonathan Shils, John Parks and
Joe Thompson.
    Membership in ACREL is by invitation only.  Prospective members are
elected by the membership at large only after nomination initiated by existing
College members.  New members of ACREL must be nominated confidentially by
current ACREL members not in the same law firm and nominees are rigorously
vetted as to credentials, character, and contributions to the profession and
to the community.  Nomination must be based on an outstanding professional
reputation and demonstrated ability in the field of real estate law.  It must
also be based on at least 10 years of substantial experience in real estate
law and substantial contributions to the improvement of real estate law and
practice, and creating a more informed bar and public in these matters,
through writing, teaching, bar or legislative activities or other public
service.
    Aasia Mustakeem is a member of the Firm's Financial Products and Real
Estate Department and practices in the areas of commercial real estate,
including representation of financial institutions in commercial loans,
representation of developers in connection with commercial projects,
representation of purchasers and sellers in acquisitions and dispositions of
office, retail, hotel, industrial and other commercial properties, negotiation
and drafting of leases for both landlords and tenants in connection with
commercial leasing; and representation in connection with project finance
transactions as well as secured financing involving inventory, equipment and
similar assets.
    Ms. Mustakeem is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of
Governors of the State Bar of Georgia and is the Immediate Past Chairperson of
the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia.  Among her many Bar
and Civic activities, Ms. Mustakeem is the Chairperson of the US Law Firm
Group Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity and serves as the Diversity
Partner at Powell Goldstein.  Additionally, she is a founding member of the
Real Estate Executive Council, a newly-formed national commercial real estate
organization comprised of executive level minority real estate professionals,
and is a member of the Georgia Supreme Court Commission on Indigent Defense.
She has been a frequent speaker and author for continuing legal education
seminars and publications.  She holds a J.D., cum laude, from Georgia State
University College of Law and a B.A., cum laude, from the University of
Pittsburgh.  She is licensed to practice in Georgia and before the U.S. Court
of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the
Northern District of Georgia.
