Avant!'s SaberDesigner and VeriasHDL Products Are First to Meet the Automotive Industry's New Model Exchange Standard

Key Avant! Products Support the Model Specification Process Standard J2546
Just Adopted by the SAE International Congress

    FREMONT, Calif., April 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Avant! Corporation (Nasdaq: AVNT) today announced that key products support
the Model Specification Process Standard (J2546) adopted by the Society of
Automotive Engineers (SAE) at the 2002 SAE International Congress. The
Saber(R)Designer product line for mixed-signal and mixed-technology design and
simulation that is used by all major OEMs and suppliers, the new-generation
VeriasHDL(R) multi-HDL language simulator, and the iQBus(TM) concurrent
engineering design environment all fully meet the requirements of the new
standard. The J2546 standard, defined by an international consortium of major
automobile manufacturers and their component and tool suppliers, provides
specifications for the generation, validation, simulation, and exchange of
mixed-technology simulation models.
Ken Waichunas, SAE standards committee member and vice-president of sales
and marketing for Applied Dynamics International, a U.S.-based automotive
supplier, states, "This standard will make communication between automotive
OEMs and suppliers much more efficient and will increase productivity by
providing component math models that are immediately useable for system
integration simulation and validation." The new Model Specification Process
Standard defines performance, fidelity, architecture, analysis, and simulation
considerations for virtual prototypes of components, systems, and subsystems
used for model exchange between OEMs and suppliers.
Examples provided in the SAE's Model Specification Process Standard are
based on models written in MAST(R). MAST, Avant!'s hardware description
language that is capable of creating simulation models for almost any device,
is used by the Saber(R) Simulator, the de-facto standard for mixed-signal
simulation. When Avant! was invited to work closely with automotive OEMs,
suppliers, and other tool vendors on the committee, Avant!'s automotive
engineering and system simulation specialists provided expertise to help
draft, review, and adopt the new standard.
"Avant! products are the first solutions that meet the SAE's new standard
for model exchange," stated Dr. Paul Lo, president of Avant! Corporation.
"Our MAST HDL language, the powerful simulation and analysis features of
SaberDesigner and VeriasHDL, and the Model Architect(TM) characterization
tools support this standard and by that improve efficiency and the time for
the design process. Meeting this new standard affirms Avant!'s leadership
position and continuing support of the worldwide automotive, transportation,
and aerospace industries."
