NEEDHAM, MA USA
NEEDHAM, Mass., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the product
development company(TM), today announced that Gartner Inc. has listed PTC in
the leader quadrant in the PLM market.* Gartner's March 2003 "Product
Lifecycle Management (PLM) Magic Quadrant" report, published last week
evaluated PTC based on its ability to execute and vision. According to
Gartner, leaders are vendors who are performing well today, have a clear
vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain
their leadership position in the market. To view the report, go to
http://www.ptc.com/go/gartner.
The Gartner Magic Quadrant profiles companies that "will have the greatest
effect on shaping the PLM market through 2007." PTC is committed to helping
companies win with superior products and feels that this commitment led to its
placement in the leadership quadrant in the "dynamic and fiercely competitive
market" for PLM. Another unique differentiator for PTC is its fully
integrated PLM software suite. "Early adopter customers have validated the
benefits and time-to-value that the new generation of (PTC) applications
deliver," said the report.
Leaders in the Magic Quadrant "have a significant presence in the PLM
market, with good prospects for the future." Top scores for vision in the
leaders section of the Quadrant reflect an "understanding of emerging PLM
needs and market trends and how well the vendor is preparing to fulfill those
needs." High scores for ability to execute reflect "current viability and
performance in the PLM market." This metric also accounts for "development and
support resource availability, delivery of applications and enhancements,
software functionality, application architecture, customer satisfaction and
financial performance," according to the report.
"Gartner's listing of PTC in the PLM leader quadrant confirms the
soundness of our approach as we help our customers make product development a
strategic capability within their organizations," said PTC Chief Marketing
Officer Tom Butta. "Gartner's new practice and resulting Magic Quadrant are an
important sign that PLM is recognized as a strategic corporate application,
important to a company's ability to create and capture value."

Quadrant is Gartner, Inc.'s opinion and is an analytical representation of a
marketplace at and for a specific time period. It measures vendors against
Gartner defined criteria for a marketplace. The positioning of vendors within
a Magic Quadrant is based on the complex interplay of many factors. Gartner
does not advise enterprises to select only those firms in the "Leaders"
quadrant. In some situations, firms in the Visionary, Challenger, or Niche
Player quadrants may be the right matches for an enterprise's requirements.
Well-informed vendor selection decisions should rely on more than a Magic
Quadrant. Gartner research is intended to be one of many information sources
