Lear's Expertise in Flexible Solutions Offers Automotive Consumers Maximum Interior Functionality

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today's consumers use
their vehicles for a wide variety of purposes -- making a daily commute,
shuttling kids to sporting events, hauling home improvement materials -- and
they want their vehicles to be flexible enough to meet their changing
lifestyle demands.
Consumers are increasingly seeking added flexibility with seating systems,
particularly with second- and third-row configurations, where ease of movement
and efficient, out-of-the-way stowage is a plus. Manufacturers who can
provide flexible seating options for first-, second- and third-row seats,
stand a greater chance of attracting customers in the highly competitive sport
utility vehicle (SUV) and minivan markets.
To meet consumer demand for flexible seating options, Lear has introduced
and is working on numerous flex-and-stow seating systems. Recently, General
Motors Corp. recognized Lear for "breakthrough technology" on GM's new 2007
full-size SUVs: power remote second-row seats that efficiently tumble out of
the way to an ingress/egress or cargo position that can be manually returned
back into a normal seating position. Not only is this feature a first of its
kind in a GM program, as an "industry first," it serves as a product
differentiator throughout the entire SUV segment.
To provide a more user-friendly operation of the third-row, power fold-
flat seat, Lear has created SmartFold(TM) which combines seat-sensing and
radio-frequency capabilities that can be integrated into any passive entry
technology like Lear's Car2U(TM) Two-Way Remote Keyless Entry to create a
best-in-class solution. It's the next innovation of Lear seating technology
targeted at supporting unsupervised operation of the third row seat.
Lear's Stadium Seat(R) System is designed to provide one-handed easy entry
or egress to the third row in any SUV or van. The Stadium Slide seat
incorporates all other functions for second row seats, such as reclining,
folding flat, fore and aft positioning and all belts to seats.
Lear Corporation (NYSE: LEA) is one of the world's largest suppliers of
automotive interior systems and components. Lear provides complete seat
systems, electronic products and electrical distribution systems and other
interior products. With annual net sales of $17.1 billion, Lear ranks #127

engineered and manufactured by a diverse team of 115,000 employees at 282
