"This is a critical year for the telecommunications industry and I am
honored that I was re-elected to support our industry's agenda of providing
consumers with accessible, affordable telephone service," stated Hanson.
"CompTel is the leading trade association for the competitive
telecommunications industry and has been a driving force in convincing
regulators to enforce the 1996 Telecom Act, which was the legislation giving
consumers choice in service."
Hanson was re-elected at the CompTel's 20th Anniversary Convention and
Trade Exposition at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention
Center. In December 2000, Mr. Hanson was named interim chairman after the
resignation of Anthony Cassara of Global Crossing. Hanson is a
telecommunications industry leader, and the person behind the rise of Internet
Commerce & Communications, a national e-business and convergent communications
company. Since assuming leadership IC&C in 1997, Hanson has helped the
company to increase its product offerings and services, and its geographic
reach.
"I am delighted to welcome Doug as CompTel's Chairman," said H. Russell
Frisby, Jr., CompTel's President. "Doug is one of the most vocal proponents
of competition and his leadership and vision is an inspiration to all of our
member companies."
