3D Face and Fingerprint Recognition
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Geometrix, Inc., a world leader
in 3D biometric identity solutions, today announced immediate availability of
ActiveFusion(TM) Multi-Biometric Technology, a new approach to fusing multiple
biometrics that dramatically improves recognition accuracy and virtually
eliminates the possibility of spoofing. ActiveFusion seamlessly integrates 3D
face recognition, fingerprint recognition, 2D facial recognition, and other
biometrics within any ActiveID(TM) Biometric Identity System.
According to David West, CEO of Geometrix, "We have successfully installed
and completed testing of a fused 3D face/fingerprint access control system at
the Headquarters of a US Federal Government Agency, configured to operate for
high security at a false acceptance rate of 0.002%. We recently delivered test
data to another Federal agency implementing fused 3D face and 2D face that
outperformed either one alone. Our 3D face products already outperform any
single alternative facial method."
According to West, the Company's patent-pending ActiveFusion method
assesses confidences of each individual feature such as facial shape elements
and fingerprint images and defines the resulting system's confidence -- for
any given size database population. This enables a more reliable identity
match or exclusion using multiple biometrics than is possible using any single
biometric.
In addition to fusing multiple biometrics to improve biometric system
accuracy, ActiveID systems with ActiveFusion substantially reduce the
potential for spoofing that exists in fingerprint and 2D facial systems. 3D
face alone is nearly impossible to spoof. Spoofing an ActiveID system that
integrates ActiveFusion technology would require simultaneously spoofing the
ActiveID 3D face technology as well as a fingerprint or other biometric
sensor.
ActiveFusion is currently available as standard capability with any
Geometrix ActiveID Biometric Identification System solution and in an SDK. It
is BioAPI compliant, integrates with a variety of commercial fingerprint and
other sensors, and is designed to be extensible for standards and requirements
of border, airport, military, law enforcement and commercial access control
systems.
The complete ActiveID Biometric Identification System product line is now
available from Geometrix and its integration partners, and will be
demonstrated in partner Hewlett-Packard's booth at the FOSE Exhibition in
Washington DC, April 5-7, 2005. Systems have been in use for over a year by
