Hifn Advances Unified Defensible Networks

New Secure Services Platform Provides Security Solution for Next-Generation
                              Networking Devices

SAN JOSE, Calif., EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, April 4
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Network- and storage-security market leader Hifn(TM)
(Nasdaq: HIFN), announced today the Secure Services Platform (SSP) 1000
Series, designed to solve the next-generation network equipment security
requirements.
The current networking trends of integrating security into access router
and LAN switching infrastructure equipment and adding more security into UTM
appliance products are absolutely frightening to those who have to develop the
next-generation network equipment products. Real time, triple-play, and file
transfer applications generate latency sensitive traffic that varies in packet
rate and size. In addition, network devices are under more attacks and most
of those attacks are stateful and require more "packet work." Ultimately,
attack prevention can impact network performance and jeopardize QoS designs.
To be competitive, companies must deliver defensible products that unify
multiple security services without sacrificing performance.
"Until now, developing unified defensible products that deliver
next-generation price-performance has been very time-consuming, expensive, and
full of risk," said Mark Vondemkamp, director of marketing at Hifn. "The SSP
1000 Series is an excellent product for network equipment manufacturers who
need to integrate complex security services into the packet forwarding process
of products that require 1 - 2 Gigabits per second of small packet forwarding
performance."
The primary processing component in each SSP 1000 Series is an ASSP that
performs the security services in the network equipment product's forwarding
plane. Service Engines are highly integrated and include an array of
processing elements that perform the security services, hardware-based ingress
and egress packet handling, and multiplexed MACs that may be configured to
support Gigabit Ethernet and/or Fast Ethernet network interfaces. The Service
Engine in the SSP 1000 Series also provides seamless connectivity to external
control processors and security coprocessors.
The 1000 Series provides a message-based management interface to the
Service Engines. The SSP Management Interface is designed so the SSP 1000
Series may be easily integrated into the packet handling functions of a
network security appliance or access router product.
The SSP Series may optionally include cryptographic (ex. IPsec) and
compression-based (IPcomp) packet processing services. Hifn's HIPP III
Security Processors connect seamlessly to the Service Engines to accelerate
these services. Systems based on SSP solutions may also optionally integrate
Hifn HIPP Look-aside Security Processors to accelerate IPsec and SSL tunnel
creation, SSL record processing, and other cryptographic and compression-based
functions for the network application running in the user space and kernel of
the operating system.
Hifn offers reference designs, hardware systems, and open source
implementations to accelerate the customer's technology evaluation and
development. The SSP Reference Platform is designed to accommodate most usage
model requirements. The reference platform allows the customer to reduce
development risk and focus on value-added differentiation.

    Availability
Hifn will offer both leaded and RoHS compliant versions of components in
the SSP 1000 Series. SSP will sample to customers in the third quarter of
2006.
