Fred Meyer, QFC Introduce $4 Generic Drugs

Starts Friday, April 4 at Fred Meyer and QFC Pharmacies

PORTLAND, Ore. and BELLEVUE, Wash., April 4, 2008 /PRNewswire/ --
Starting today, Fred Meyer Stores and QFC will begin offering pharmacy
customers some generic drugs for $4 per prescription. The $4 generic
prescriptions will be available at all QFC pharmacies in Washington and
Oregon, and at all Fred Meyer pharmacies in Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

The $4 price will apply to more than 300 generic drugs prescribed for
30-day supplies for commonly prescribed dosages. Lists of the participating
pharmacies and eligible generic drugs are available at
http://www.fredmeyer.com/generic or at http://www.qfc.com/generic or by
calling 1-877-4RX-LIST (1-877-479-5478).

The Fred Meyer and QFC programs include generic alternatives for some
of the most commonly prescribed drugs used to treat conditions such as
diabetes, asthma, depression, heart disease, thyroid and other health
problems.

The $4 generic prescriptions provide Fred Meyer and QFC customers with
an affordable alternative to meet their health care and medication needs.
Customers interested in the low-price generic drugs should consult their
doctors or pharmacists to determine if a generic drug is available for
their prescription and if it is right for them. The $4 prescriptions are
available in Fred Meyer and QFC pharmacies as well as through on-line and
telephone orders for customers to pick up in a store.

Separately, Fred Meyer and QFC will offer generic versions of the
family planning drugs Ortho Cyclen(R) and Ortho Tri Cyclen(R) (28-day
supply) and the generic version of the fertility drug Clomid(R) for $9.

    About Generic Drugs

Generic drugs are as safe and effective as brand name drugs (according
to federal law, they must be therapeutically equivalent to brand name
drugs) yet cost significantly less. After a company's exclusive right to
market a medication expires, other companies are allowed to develop generic
equivalents -- usually at a much lower cost.
