Payless Cashways, Inc. Announces New CFO
    KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Payless Cashways, Inc.
(OTC Bulletin Board: PCSH), a full-line building materials and finishing
products company focusing on the professional builder, remodel and repair
contractor, institutional buyer and project-oriented consumer, today announced
the appointment of Richard B. Witaszak as Senior Vice President of Finance and
Chief Financial Officer.  He replaces Raymond P. Springer who left the Company
in December to pursue a position with an Internet start-up company.
    Witaszak joins the company with over 15 years of experience in all areas
of accounting and finance, including both retail and wholesale operations.
Most recently he served as executive vice president and chief financial
officer of Fred's, Inc., a multi-unit retailer.  He has also held the position
of executive vice president of finance and operations at AE Clevite, Inc., an
automotive after-market wholesale and retail distributor.  At J.P. Industries,
Inc., a company in the automotive and plumbing manufacturing and distribution
industry, he served as the manager of financial reporting.  Witaszak is a CPA
and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Wayne State
University.
