Data Express(R) Removable Hard Drive Enclosures Incorporate DES and TDES Data
Encryption Algorithms
WASHINGTON and FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., FOSE (Booth 1345), April 5
/PRNewswire/ -- StorCase(R) Technology, a world leader in data-protective
storage solutions, today announced it will be releasing new models of its
industry proven Data Express removable hard drive enclosures that will
incorporate Government-certified data encryption algorithms.

The Data Express DE110 with Encryption is a steel constructed, internal,
hot swappable enclosure for Parallel ATA (PATA) drives designed specifically
to perform U.S. NIST and Canadian CSE-certified DES (Data Encryption Standard)
and TDES (Triple DES) encryption for sensitive and/or classified data.
The new DE110 models are unique in that encryption is performed on all
portions of the hard drive, including the boot sector and the OS, assuring
complete data security. A "Bypass" mode can also be conveniently selected by
switch, offering support for clear text format. Providing further application
flexibility, the DE110 receiving frame is compatible with earlier, standard
DE110 drive carriers.
"DE110 with Encryption models were designed to support applications
requiring various levels of performance and data security," said Joel Tang,
Director of Engineering at StorCase Technology. "The actual DES or TDES
encryption operation does not impact the data transfer rate," added Tang.
Each unit comes equipped with two dedicated electronic keys for data
authentication and access to secure data. An LED display indicates the active
encryption mode and key authenticity, in addition to providing drive ID and
activity information. Models are available with 64-bit DES and 128-bit TDES
encryption, and can also support 192-bit encryption upon request.
As with all DE110 removable drive enclosures, the new models use a mating
connector highly-rated for up to 25,000 insertions and incorporate protective
"Soft Start" circuitry to assure data integrity during spin-up and insertion.
A mechanical key lock on the DE110 drive carrier provides additional system
security.
