BALTIMORE, April 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- T. Rowe Price has added the
Limited-Term Bond Portfolio-II to its "II" share class lineup of variable
insurance portfolios, bringing the total number of funds that offer this class
of shares to five. The "II" share class, which was first launched in April
2002 and is used as an investment option for variable annuity and variable
life insurance contracts, carries a 12b-1 fee of 0.25%.
The Limited-Term Bond Portfolio is managed by Edward A. Wiese and seeks a
high level of income consistent with minimum fluctuations in principal value
and liquidity. Normally, the fund invests at least 80% of its net assets in
bonds and 65% of its total assets in short- and intermediate-term bonds. The
fund's average effective maturity will not exceed five years. The fund is
designed for individuals seeking a higher level of income than money market
funds provide and who are able to accept the risk of modest price declines.
"For insurance companies offering multi-manager products, the II share
class enables us to offer a diverse selection of competitive portfolios,
priced in a manner that is appropriate for many of our insurance company
clients," said John Cammack, Director of Third Party Distribution for T. Rowe
Price. "Our variable insurance portfolios have been well received since their
launch, demonstrating the appeal of our solid risk-adjusted performance,
consistent style discipline, and low portfolio turnover."
The other "II" share class funds include Equity Income Portfolio-II, Blue
Chip Growth Portfolio-II, Mid-Cap Growth Portfolio-II, and Health Sciences
Portfolio-II. The Mid-Cap Growth Portfolio-II is currently closed to new
investors.
