GN Netcom is first to qualify for the latest standard in a Bluetooth headset;
improvements include reduced interference and faster connection time
NASHUA, N.H., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- GN Netcom, the hands-free technology
leader, today announced that it is the first headset manufacturer to be
qualified by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group to incorporate the new
Bluetooth 1.2 specification in its upcoming products. The qualification
supports GN Netcom's leadership position as a pioneer in Bluetooth technology,
and provider of industry-leading communications products. GN Netcom was
similarly first to be qualified for two previous versions of the
specification.
Future office and mobile headset products under both the GN Netcom and
JABRA brands will be approved to utilize this new version of the standard
along with new mobile phones supporting the new features in the Bluetooth 1.2
specification.
The new version of the Bluetooth specification incorporates features such
as Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH) technology and Fast Connect. AFH minimizes
interference between Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz-based wireless applications such as
WLANS (wireless local area networks) or Wi-Fi operating in the same
environment such as in offices or hotspots. Fast Connect allows users to
significantly reduce the time required to establish a connection between
devices. The new standard is also compatible with Bluetooth v.1.1 products.
"In a business environment, one of the challenges of integrating many
wireless technologies is interference. Bluetooth has always worked well with
other standards like 802.11. With the Adaptive Frequency Hopping feature in
the new Bluetooth 1.2 specification, interference is cut down even further in
the unlicensed spectrum where many wireless technologies must play together,"
said Mike McCamon, marketing director of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group.
"It is encouraging to see companies like GN Netcom take a leadership role in
helping to move the industry forward by developing products using this new
specification."
"GN Netcom is committed to incorporating the latest technology to provide
customers with the full range of capabilities offered by Bluetooth
technology," said Leo Larsen, chief technology officer, GN Netcom. "With this
qualification, GN Netcom now has the capability to support next generation
mobile products that incorporate the new functionality offered by the new
specification."
