"As we stated last month, this launch is the first step in our plan to
widen our range of products and services to better serve our business and
institutional customers," said Scott Weinbrandt, general manager of Gateway's
Systems & Networking Products Group. "These new high-density server products
complement our existing server product line and are perfect examples of
full-featured, value-based offerings that we will continue to provide our
customers who need comprehensive network solutions that also support
mission-critical environments."
Led by Weinbrandt, a former Dell server executive, Gateway's Systems &
Networking Products Group is developing a portfolio of high-performance
products and services dedicated to the SMB, government and institutional
market segments.
Gateway's new high-density servers are a cost-effective way for
space-constrained organizations to host a large amount of web content, email,
applications and run file/print services. Gateway customers that host or
house applications and data for their employees, customers and partners can
employ racks of these servers for performance, spacesavings and greater
overall return on investment. A single industry-standard 19-inch rack can
contain up to 42 Gateway 955 servers, allowing entire organizations to be run
from a single, centralized location.
The new servers can be scaled to meet the sometimes unpredictable needs of
growing businesses as well as to handle spikes in workload. When configured
with the appropriate accessories and equipment, the computing power afforded
by high-density rack-mount solutions make them ideal for demanding research
and business applications, as well as application and server consolidation.
The new servers can also be clustered for high compute-intensive applications
such as research, imaging, financial services, online business, banking, and
database management.
According to Kirk Skaugen, general manager of Intel's Enterprise Platforms
and Services Division, "Businesses of all sizes need a heightened level of
server availability, reliability, management, and performance. Gateway's new
servers based on Intel(R) architecture deliver best-in-class performance,
making them an effective computing platform for a range of organizations."
The new dual-processor-ready high-density servers provide support for the
latest technology for a range of demanding applications, including Intel(R)
Xeon(R) processors up to 3.06GHz with 533MHz front side bus, dual-integrated
Gigabit Ethernet network ports, and 64-bit PCI-X technology. Fast access to
applications and data through Ultra 320 SCSI Hot-Swap 10,000 RPM hard drives
further improves performance.
The ultra-dense Gateway 955 server provides dual-processing capability in
a compact 1U form factor that measures 1.75 inches. With a very aggressive
starting price of $1,699(1), the Gateway 955 provides the right combination of
high-performance technology and slim design needed for compute-intensive,
space-constrained, multi-server environments. Customers can scale to
additional performance and functionality through support for up to three
hot-swap hard drives, two PCI-X expansion slots, and up to 12GB of PC2100 ECC
DDR memory.
Offered at a starting price of only $2,199(1), the Gateway 975 2U server
provides enhanced performance, expandability and redundancy options for
mission critical applications such as email, database and web usages. Ideal
for storage and I/O intensive workloads, the Gateway 975 provides investment
protection for growing organizations with up to seven hot-swap hard drives,
six PCI-X expansion slots, up to 12GB of PC2100 ECC DDR memory, and the option
for hot-swappable redundant power supplies.
Customers purchasing a Gateway 955 or Gateway 975 server can also turn to
Gateway for a full line of rack products and accessories. Products such as
rack casings, shelving, and power management strips help businesses house and
deploy the new compact 1U and 2U rack-mount servers, centralize server
resources, simplify services and maintenance, and maximize their technology
investment.
Gateway provides a comprehensive array of services specifically designed
to meet the needs of businesses and institutions including a Three-Year Parts
and Labor, Three-Year On-site, Next-Business-Day Limited Warranty(2).
Gateway's optional four-hour on-site response program provides a heightened
