DETROIT, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Women in Communications (WIC) of Detroit
is sponsoring its 65th Anniversary Matrix Awards Banquet recognizing
outstanding communicators on Monday, May 10, 2004, at 6 p.m. at Sinbad's, on
the banks of the Detroit River, 100 St. Clair, Detroit, Mich. The event's
Special Guest Speaker is USA Today's USA Weekend Magazine Senior Editor and
"Who's News" Columnist Lorrie Lynch. Lynch, a founding editor of USA Today,
will share a multi-media presentation offering an insider's view of "The
Business of Show: How Things Get Done in Hollywood."
The WIC's annual Headliner, Vanguard and Diamond award winners will also
be spotlighted at the event. Other highlights include a silent auction and
elegant dinner. Cost is members $45, non-members $60 and full-time students
$40. The event is open to the public. Reservations are being accepted at

In addition to being the voice of USA Weekend's best-read feature, Lynch
is a senior editor and experienced pop culture writer. She also writes
occasional magazine cover stories, most recently a preview of the 2004 Academy
Awards. Among her cover profiles have been such stars as Julia Roberts,
George Clooney, John Travolta, Harrison Ford and Winona Ryder.
A graduate of Central Michigan University where she was editor of CM Life,
Lynch covered national stories and Washington politics for USA Today's News
section. She was the paper's San Francisco Bureau Chief from 1982 - 1985, and
reported the beginning of the AIDS crisis. In addition, Lynch has another 10
years of experience at newspapers in California and Michigan. She is the
recipient of a number of writing awards including recognition from the
National Association of Newspaper Columnists.
