GigaFin Networks Adds Next Generation Denial-of-Service Protection to Network Analysis and Remediation Solutions

GigaFin's powerful, simple and affordable appliances extend analysis and
remediation to defend server farms from malicious traffic attacks

CUPERTINO, Calif., April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- GigaFin Networks today
announced enhanced Denial of Service (DoS) prevention capabilities for its
network traffic analysis and remediation solutions. With the introduction
of new software for the family of SlimLine and FlowLine appliances, which
already support a wide range of anti-DoS prevention, GigaFin adds deep and
innovative protection against bandwidth, protocol and logic-based DoS
attacks.

DoS attacks result in serious losses for online gaming and Internet
services providers, where attacks occur on a daily basis, impacting
operating costs, revenues, customer service and bottom line. Recent DoS
attacks in South Korea on financial institutions and online gaming
companies have caused significant customer service issues resulting in
immediate financial loss and long-term impact on the victim companies'
reputations. The principal types of DoS attacks tend to be TCP SYN, UDP and
ICMP flooding, which consume bandwidth and server resources. Defending
against these attacks has been expensive and complex due to the need to
support Gigabit throughput and also distinguish between legitimate and
malicious traffic.

Based on a purpose-built deep inspection processor for identifying and
remediating malicious traffic, GigaFin appliances offer anti-DoS
capabilities at a fraction of the cost of existing solutions. In recent
months, GigaFin's high speed appliances have been deployed at service
providers in the United States and South Korea to maintain service
availability and increase revenues by preventing disruptions due to SYN and
UDP floods.

"Many customers are struggling with the cost of existing DoS mitigation
solutions to fit within their high speed server farms. Without any
protection, every minute that an organization's website is inaccessible
results in disruptions for their customer base and damage to their
commercial reputation," commented William Thomas, Chief Executive Officer
at GigaFin Networks. "In response to customer demand for more
cost-effective anti-DoS solutions, we have added new capabilities to our
network analysis and remediation appliances. Also, due to the evolving
nature of DoS attacks, we continue to work closely with our customer base
in order to develop timely solutions to new attack vectors."

New features for DoS mitigation include the ability to protect
legitimate users' access to the network by adding a new SYN-cookie
mechanism to its SYN-proxy mitigation technique. GigaFin has also added a
variety of ICMP detection, tracking and blocking techniques that counter
UDP, ICMP echo and reply, and LAND attacks. The added benefit of being the
most-cost effective solution gives network administrators a solution to
deploy transparently in front of individual servers, server farms,
switches, routers and other existing infrastructure. Further information

GigaFin appliances allow network administrators to see through complex
layers of traffic, identify and prioritize data running over the network,
and protect against undesirable network use from internal or external
sources. Visit GigaFin Networks in booth #2643 at the RSA conference in San
Francisco, from April 7-11.
