RSA Security Ships RSA Keon(R) Web Passport to Provide Trusted Web-Based Digital Certificates

RSA Keon(R) Web Passport Enables Private and Legally Binding Electronic
                       Communications and Transactions

    RSA(R) CONFERENCE, SAN FRANCISCO, April 9 /PRNewswire/ --
RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS), the most trusted name in e-security(TM),
today announced that RSA Keon(R) Web Passport is now shipping. RSA Keon Web
Passport, an easy-to-use, standards-based, downloadable credential store is
designed to make Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) implementations easier by
managing and simplifying the use of roaming digital certificates. RSA Keon
Web Passport is designed to reduce the complexity of PKI by eliminating the
need to deploy software on a user's desktop, and seamlessly integrates with
multiple systems with multiple applications to enable users to conduct secure
e-business transactions.
"RSA Keon Web Passport helps organizations use digital certificates in a
Web-based environment to help ensure that their transactions are authentic,
confidential and digitally signed," said Bill McQuaide, vice president of
product marketing at RSA Security. "RSA Keon Web Passport offers customers an
easy-to-use and interoperable PKI solution to help them conduct digital
transactions easily and securely from any PC with a browser."
Using RSA Keon Web Passport, users can securely download digital
credentials into a local virtual smart card from anywhere over the Internet,
allowing them to work from multiple systems at their offices and at home. A
user simply goes to a URL to conduct a transaction and authenticates to it
using an RSA SecurID(R) two-factor authenticator or secure password. Once
authenticated, the RSA Keon Web Passport plug-in is automatically downloaded
to the user's PC.
The user's digital certificates, which were issued and hosted by the Web
servers, are then downloaded to RSA Keon Web Passport for secure storage on
the system. Digital certificates stored in RSA Keon Web Passport can be used
with any standards-based PKI-enabled application, such as Web browsers, e-mail
and VPNs, to ensure the transaction is valid. Once the transaction is
completed, the user's virtual smart card is deleted from the system to ensure
the credentials are protected from improper use. Because the RSA Keon Web
Passport is a standard-based PKI component, it is also designed to be used
with certificates from other industry leading Certificate Authority products.
RSA Keon Web Passport can also be used in conjunction with the RSA Keon
Certificate Server, enabling users to have a certificate automatically
generated via the RSA Keon OneStep functionality and have the certificate sent
to users along with the RSA Keon Web Passport during their initial visit to
the URL. This process helps to remove the burden of requesting the
certificates from users and deploying certificates from the administration
staff while protecting their electronic business transactions.
