Guidance Software Releases Computer Forensics Hardware Solution

    SAN FRANCISCO, April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- FastBloc(TM), the first
data-acquisition hardware tool for Windows(R) with write-blocking capability,
was announced today by Guidance Software at the RSA Conference 2001. The new
computer hardware device safely acquires source media from a Windows
environment at up to 2 to 3 times the speed of native DOS methodologies.
FastBloc is optimized for use with the award-winning EnCase(R)
investigative software application, also developed by Guidance. The hardware
tool enables computer investigators to read IDE hard drives with a fast,
flexible SCSI interface, without having to switch between Windows and DOS. It
also safely "hot swaps" drives for multiple-drive acquisitions. With this
announcement, Guidance continues to advance the practice of computer forensics
by providing effective, fully integrated, non-invasive, Windows-based software
and hardware solutions.
"Computer forensic analysts demand a faster, more reliable way to acquire
drives as an alternative to the limited DOS process," says John Patzakis,
president of Guidance Software. "We expect a tremendous response to this
product from anyone who performs forensic examinations."
Computer forensics is the indispensable methodology for the gathering,
analysis and presentation of evidence from computers. The practice is a
critical aspect in many criminal and civil investigations, and has gained
similar importance in the world of corporate IT security. Computer forensics
enables the recovery of all available information, including deleted files and
other important but normally invisible temporary data, while preserving and
authenticating the recovered evidence for court presentation.

Guidance Software, based in Pasadena, Calif., is the world leader in
computer investigative software, acquisition hardware, and training. Using
the EnCase and FastBloc products, analysts and examiners have comprehensive,
efficient tools and a methodology to capture and analyze digital data
contained on computer drives for investigative purposes. EnCase recently
received the "Best Buy" award for forensic software from SC Info Security
Magazine (April 2001 issue). The software was awarded five stars -- the
highest rating -- and the magazine told readers, "If you work doing forensic
analysis of media on a regular basis, you must have this tool."
