PersonalPath Systems Appoints S. Michael Matyas, Jr. as Chief Cryptographer and Security Architect

 Industry Pioneer Joins Technology Development Effort for Innovative Privacy
            and Security Offering for Large Health Insurance Plans

    SAN FRANCISCO, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- PersonalPath Systems, Inc. (PPSI)
today announced the appointment of S. Michael Matyas, Jr., Ph.D., as the
company's chief cryptographer and security architect.  Dr. Matyas, an
internationally recognized pioneer in the analysis, design, and development of
cryptographic and security-related systems, will oversee the development of
PPSI's privacy and security solutions, leading the company's conceptual
architecture process and extending its innovative customer offerings for large
health insurers.  PPSI issued its announcement at RSA Conference 2001, the
cryptography and data security conference sponsored by RSA Security, Inc.
    "With Mike Matyas' guidance, PersonalPath Systems will continue to make
important strides in deploying the most sophisticated privacy and security
technology applications in health care," said Thomas M. Hagan, PersonalPath
Systems' CIO and chief privacy officer.  "For nearly three decades, Mike has
played a highly influential role in the evolution of modern cryptography and
many of the security-related technologies that enable trust in business,

    Dr. Matyas will play a key role in the development of PPSI's privacy and
security technology solutions, which enable large health plans to better serve
their constituencies by becoming leading regional hubs for trusted online
health care information, services, and transactions.  PPSI's solutions allow
health plans rapidly to deploy online portals to connect these constituencies,
and by utilizing a de-identified data environment, they offer an immediate
response to the anticipated compliance requirements of the Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
    PPSI developed its privacy-enabled portal offering as an extension of its
patent-pending privacy and security protection model for
http://www.personalpath.com, an innovative care management application for
health plan members.  PPSI has successfully implemented PersonalPath.com for
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New
Jersey, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, whose health plan populations
total more than ten million lives.  PPSI's privacy and security model
incorporates Entrust Technologies' (Nasdaq: ENTU) PKI technology and involved
the establishment of a stand-alone company, Internet Privacy Solutions, Inc.,
to serve as a trusted, third-party registration and certificate authority.
    Under the terms of a recently announced, three-year agreement with PPSI,
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) has been actively involved in the
software development of a customized, regional portal that will help BCBSM to
serve its cardholders, doctors, hospitals, employer groups, and agents in a
secure environment.   PPSI and BCBSM expect the new portal to be implemented
during the second quarter of 2001.  When implemented, the BCBSM portal is
expected to serve all of the health plan's 4.8 million members, making it the
largest known deployment of PKI.
    Dr. Matyas joined PPSI following a 33-year career at IBM, where he
participated in the design and development of numerous IBM cryptographic
products.  Retiring as an IBM Distinguished Engineer, his career at the
company involved a wide array of private sector and government initiatives in
the United States and abroad, including special work in cryptographic
application programming interfaces (APIs); software protection and
distribution schemes; electronic payment systems; time stamping protocols;
biometric authentication systems; file encryption systems; key management,
distribution, and recovery systems; and network security.
    A leading member of IBM's Cryptography Center of Competence for 25 years,
he was chief architect of the company's Common Cryptographic Architecture, a
multi-platform data security systems and application program interface.  In
addition, Dr. Matyas has contributed to the development of several national
and international cryptography standards.
    Dr. Matyas holds patents or has filed patent applications on nearly
100 inventions, and he is the author of books and numerous technical articles
covering many aspects of cryptographic system design.  Dr. Matyas received a
B.S. degree in physics and mathematics from Western Michigan University and a
Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Iowa; his doctoral
thesis on cryptography was the first dealing with this subject in the United
States.  Dr. Matyas and his wife are the parents of two children and reside in
Manassas, Virginia.
