State-of-the-Art Digital Certificate Management Reduces Risks and
Management Costs for Enterprise and Extranet PKI Deployments
SAN FRANCISCO, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA Conference -- Computer
Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced the beta release of eTrust
PKI, an easily deployable Public Key Infrastructure solution for strong
authentication of users and management of digital certificates across the
enterprise.
eTrust PKI closely integrates with CA's eTrust OCSPro, eTrust VPN, and
eTrust SSO security solutions, enabling enterprises to rapidly incorporate
digital certificate technology in their existing environments and ensure
greater security and privacy for their data.
"eTrust PKI provides an innovative solution, which solves the practical
issues of getting PKI systems out of the pilot stage and into production where
they're desperately needed," said Barry Keyes, vice president of CA's security
solutions. "eTrust PKI delivers a low-risk and cost-effective secure access
solution that easily bridges to today's complex enterprise environments."
PKI architecture provides a widely accepted standard for ensuring the
security of users, data, and applications. However, many PKI products require
extensive customization to integrate with customers' existing IT
infrastructure and business processes. Most also fail to provide effective
administration of certificates across an entire organizations. This makes for
costly, slow deployment and can undermine the effectiveness of PKI
implementations.
CA's eTrust solution for PKI, by contrast, facilitates rapid integration
with enterprise systems and provides the enterprise administration
capabilities that are so critical to effective implementation. eTrust PKI
thus reduces the security risks associated with incomplete or faulty
administration of certificates -- while reducing the ongoing cost of
best-practice security operations.
"Long and costly implementations have been the bane of enterprise PKI
adoption," said Charles Kolodgy, research manager, Internet Security Software,
IDC. "By offering an out-of-the-box solution that can make PKI applications
real, CA should foster PKI adoption by providing added value to customers."
Large user populations can be enrolled in bulk into eTrust PKI, with
day-to-day management of new users or revocations handled by non-expert staff
through predefined profiles and a simplified management interface. eTrust PKI
is uniquely easy to roll out across large enterprises, with built-in support
for desktop deployment to enable certificates to work immediately with leading
applications.
eTrust PKI can be easily set up and installed, and provides all required
supporting infrastructure -- such as directory and security policy repository
-- right "out of the box.
eTrust PKI is designed for future growth through its pre-packaged
X.500-based policy management repository. eTrust PKI also provides optional
support for a wide range of smart card devices for user authentication and/or
hardware security modules such as Gemplus, Rainbow, Eracom, and nCipher. An
open interface enables integration of eTrust PKI with any standards-conformant
smart card.
eTrust PKI integrates with applications across a wide range of
environments including Win32, NT, Windows 2000, UNIX, and S/390 Linux. eTrust
PKI is open to work with all LDAP-conformant directories for publication of
certificate and revocation lists. eTrust PKI conforms to X.509 V3 and IETF
standards, including the PKIX certificate and CRL profile, and OCSP RFCs.
In conjunction with this announcement, CA announced the immediate
availability of new releases of eTrust Directory and eTrust OCSPro. The new
eTrust Directory release enhances CA's globally scalable, standards-compliant
directory solution with certificate management capabilities. The new eTrust
OCSPro release delivers on-line certificate validation services to meet the
stringent security needs of Internet banking to the levels required by
Identrus banks. It also simplifies administration with policy templates.
Custom packaged versions of both products are bundled with the eTrust PKI
beta and are also available as full-featured stand-alone solutions from CA.
