New User Provisioning, 2nd Generation PKI, Enhanced Entitlement and Trade
Settlement Services All Designed to Move Complexity to the Network
Infrastructure
RSA(R) CONFERENCE, SAN FRANCISCO, April 10 /PRNewswire/ --
VeriSign, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSN), the leading provider of Internet trust
services, today announced its next-generation Internet trust services,
designed to enable enterprises to rapidly deploy trusted applications tied to
a globally-interoperable trust infrastructure. VeriSign's new services
include managed user provisioning, 2nd-generation PKI, enhanced entitlements
management, and end-to-end trade settlement services -- all accessible through
XML interfaces to a utility-like managed services platform. These new services
are being introduced in conjunction with today's announcement of the
standardization initiative for the XML Key Management Specification (XKMS) by
VeriSign, Microsoft, webMethods and a wide range of industry supporters
(see related release dated April 10, 2001).
"In order for e-commerce to continue its momentum, enterprises must be
primed to deploy more applications, tied to many more users, and connected to
many more trading partners," said Stratton Sclavos, president & CEO of
VeriSign. "By taking the complexity away from both the desktop and the
application, our new generation of trust services will allow enterprises to
expand their existing Internet initiatives while also enabling a whole new
class of applications such as digital rights management, peer-to-peer
communications and dynamic collaboration."
VeriSign's next generation of Internet trust services will revolutionize
the way users incorporate trust services into their existing applications and
emerging web services by enabling integration through simple and open XML
interfaces while avoiding the need for specialized software toolkits. The new
services include:
-- User Provisioning Services -- Developed in conjunction with Access360,
"Access360.net powered by VeriSign" is a trusted managed service which
enables businesses to automate the increasingly complex process of
connecting employees, business partners and customers to the internal
and external information resources they need (see related release,
"VeriSign and Access 360 Partner to Create a New Class of User
Provisioning Services" dated April 10, 2001).
-- 2nd-Generation PKI -- VeriSign's next-generation public key
infrastructure (PKI) service enables enterprises to delegate critical
yet complex functions such as key management and validation to
VeriSign's carrier-class trust infrastructure. Based on the
industry-supported XKMS specification, this service moves functions
such as digital certificate processing, revocation status checking, and
certification path location and validation -- previously built into
applications via proprietary toolkits -- to the network, making them
easily accessible via standard XML interfaces. The XKMS architecture
provides a complete framework for ensuring broad interoperability
across applications developed by enterprises, B2B exchanges regardless
of the PKI systems used within these Internet communities of interest.
-- Enhanced Entitlements -- In addition to bundling policy management
solutions from Netegrity with VeriSign's digital certificate and online
authentication services, VeriSign's Entitlements Management Service has
now been enhanced to incorporate the company's "Trust Assertion
Framework," which is tracking the Security Assertion Markup Language
(SAML) standardization activity in the OASIS forum. These enhanced
services provide for trusted delivery of information such as business
credentials, professional standing and credit ratings to authorized
recipients conducting high-value transactions.
-- Trade Settlement -- Developed in partnership with SurePay, VeriSign's
new trade settlement services capitalize on the companies' leadership
in the online payments arena by integrating VeriSign's managed digital
certificate and entitlements services with SurePay's patent-pending
end-to-end payment solutions (see related release, "VeriSign and eONE
Global Partner to Deliver Integrated B2B and B2C Internet Payment
Solutions" dated April 5, 2001). These services link online payments
to processes such as registration, discovery and negotiation, which
occur before the settlement stage of a business transaction.
