NEW YORK, NY USA
NEW YORK, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Twelve German high school students from
Berlin will arrive in New York City today as part of a German Jewish-American
exchange program. Organized by the North American Boards of Rabbis (NABOR)
and supported by Alliance, BMW, the German American Solidarity Fund, Lufthansa
and Siemens, the exchange program is designed to foster a better understanding
between young Germans and the American Jewish youth. The exchange program
comes at a time when the relationship between the United States and Germany
has been strained because of the war with Iraq.

"The main goal of the program is to build a relationship between Germans
and Jewish-Americans," said Rabbi Jay Rosenbaum, Founder of the Program,
Director of NABOR, and Spiritual Leader of Temple Israel of Lawrence. "This
relationship must not only be predicated on the past but on a shared
commitment to the future."
The students will spend two weeks in New York while living with American
students and their families. During their stay in New York City, students
will visit synagogues, learn about Jewish traditions, attend local schools,
visit landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building,
and attend a New York Mets baseball game at Shea Stadium.
In August of this year, the Jewish-American students, who served as hosts,
will travel to Berlin, one of Europe's most dynamic capitals, where they will
have the opportunity to experience German culture in the fastest growing
Jewish communities in Europe. The students will live with German students and
their families while visiting German high schools, the German Parliament, and
the US and Israeli Embassies.

About the North American Board of Rabbis
The North American Boards of Rabbis is an umbrella organization of Boards
of Rabbis across the United States and Canada, who have a membership of
thousands of Rabbis from all branches of Judaism that serve the affiliated
Jewish community of North America, which members approximately 4.5 million
individuals. Two years ago, NABOR sent a delegation of fifty rabbis and
presidents of the local boards of Rabbis to Berlin to establish a closer
relationship with the Jewish community, business community and leaders of the
society in Germany. While in Germany, Rabbi Jay Rosenbaum and the delegation
met with foreign minister Joschka Fischer to thank him for Germany's
unswerving support of Israel.
