FEV, Inc. Aftertreatment Controller Provides Easy-to-Implement Emission Control

First showing of controller designed for retrofit can immediately impact
emission control issues in older vehicles

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- FEV, Inc., announced
today that it is showing a new Diesel Aftertreatment Control system at the
2008 SAE World Congress. It is the first time that the system, which was
developed in North America, is being shown. Because it features a
stand-alone control unit that does not need to be integrated with the
Engine Control Unit (ECU), the system offers the potential to significantly
impact emission control issues in older model vehicles due to the
possibility of retrofitting the system. The announcement was made by Dr.
Dean Tomazic, vice president, Engine, Performance and Emissions Division,
FEV, Inc.

"We have made great strides in emission controls, but there are
millions of vehicles on the road that produce unacceptable levels of
harmful emissions," said Tomazic. "This device promises to provide a
practical, cost- effective solution."

The Aftertreatment Controller is capable of operation independent of a
sophisticated ECU, and actively controls either an SCR or NOx absorber
system. The stand-alone controller interfaces with an existing engine
management system and provides precise, closed-loop feedback control.

The controller is designed to be highly flexible, with each unit
requiring no software modifications, and simple calibration. Its modular
structure allows for easy adjustment, replacement, addition, or removal of
control modules.

Other key features of the device are: -- Stand-alone control unit -- Communication to the ECU via CAN or other communication protocol -- FEV patented controller core features multi-variable control algorithms enabling simultaneous lambda and temperature control at all times -- Base controller structure allows the integration and implementation of different emission control technologies such as NOx adsorber -- Software development environment allows easy and fast porting to various processor platforms -- Can be used in various applications such as PM and NOx control retrofits The stand alone Aftertreatment Controller is one of numerous new technologies that will be on display at the FEV exhibit at the 2008 SAE World Congress.
