Tata Consultancy Services Makes Major Automotive Industry Push During SAE 2005 World Congress

Ferrari's F1 Car, Featuring TCS Technologies and Engineering Solutions,
                           Will Also Be on Display

DETROIT, April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Asia's
largest IT Services Company, will highlight its growing presence in Motown and
its suite of engineering and technology solutions for the automotive industry
at the centennial SAE 2005 World Congress in Detroit, MI from April 11 - 14,
2005. As a leading global IT services provider, TCS has deep domain
expertise, industry credibility and experience in the global automotive
community.
"The automotive sector is a key focus area for TCS and we are working with
industry leaders worldwide to address many of the imperatives facing the auto
industry, including environmental, safety and health issues, and to create
cost-effective solutions," said TCS CEO and Managing Director, S. Ramadorai.
"TCS has done pioneering work in the field of engineering and IT services for
many of the leading automotive majors and we aim to provide solutions from art
to part for our customers," he added.
Riding on its recent success with Ferrari, TCS officials say they are well
poised to strategically help automotive companies achieve their business and
technology objectives. TCS has established an Automotive Center of Excellence
(ACOE) in Detroit to focus specifically on strategizing and delivering
valuable end-to-end IT, manufacturing and engineering consulting and services,
and outsourcing solutions to automotive customers in North America.
The ACOE is an extension of TCS' current presence in Detroit, where the
firm maintains a development center dedicated to servicing local customers.
Services that are provided include new product introduction (NPI), product
engineering, process engineering, industrial automation, enterprise asset
management, embedded systems, and supply chain optimization.
At SAE, automotive executives from TCS will participate in two panel
discussions on motor racing. John Waraniak, Director of TCS' Automotive
Center of Excellence (ACOE) in Detroit, will moderate a panel discussion on
grassroots racing and the business opportunities it presents to automakers,
suppliers, aftermarket, and consumer product companies during the Tuesday,
April 12 technical session entitled "Exciting the Weekend Warriors Means
Profits for the OEM and Suppliers."
In addition, Dr. Gautam Sardar, Head of the Research and Technology Group
of TCS' Engineering and Industrial Business Services business unit, will
address the role of intelligent systems in enhancing the performance of F1
racing cars during the Wednesday, April 13 technical session entitled
"Electronic Technology Applied to Formula 1."
As another highlight of TCS' presence at SAE 2005, attendees will be able
to view a Ferrari Formula One Racing Car. In partnership with TCS, Ferrari
will show the car at the AVL Theatre throughout the conference. Late last
year, Ferrari announced that it had selected TCS to help provide IT and
engineering services to support the Ferrari team in Maranello, Italy, for the
development of the F1 2005 racing car.
TCS' wide solution range spans the entire product and process lifecycles,
driving optimization for automotive clients, as well as customers in other
industries, from start to finish. This encompasses providing concept to
component to aftermarket services with regard to product lifecycle management,
and process design to operations and maintenance with regard to process
lifecycle management.
In addition to the collaborative work of the ACOE in the US, TCS'
automotive customers benefit from TCS' Global Engineering Center (GEC), a
seamless extension of the Customer's Engineering arm that leverages the
availability of highly trained and skilled individuals at its global
development centers across the world to generate significant economies of
scale over a short period of time.
