Emitec Introduces Particulate Matter PM Filter Catalyst

DETROIT, April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Emitec Inc., the world's leading
developer and producer of METALIT(R) metallic substrates for exhaust gas
aftertreatment, recently introduced its new particulate matter PM Filter
Catalyst for both OE and retrofit diesel applications.
"Emitec's PM Filter Catalyst has the potential to reduce particulate
matter up to 80 percent, depending on the engine application," said Michael
Kerby, president, Emitec Inc. "It also produces minimal impact on total
exhaust system backpressure and therefore has a negligible effect on fuel
consumption."
The PM Filter Catalyst works on the principle of a partial flow filter,
diverting a portion of the exhaust gas as it travels down each channel of the
substrate through a stainless-steel sintered, fleece fiber material. PM from
the exhaust gas is then deposited in the fleece material for oxidation through
a combination of heat and nitrogen dioxide (NO2).
Emitec's PM reduction also offers maintenance-free operation due to the
fact that ash does not accumulate. Ash is a natural byproduct of lube oil
combustion that occurs inside the diesel engine and is harmless to the
environment. Traditional wall-flow filters require ash cleaning as often as
every year. Relying on the partial flow concept, however, Emitec's PM filter
catalyst allows the ash to pass through the filter so that there is no
accumulation and therefore no requirement for cleaning. From the end customer
through to the OEM, this is a major advantage in terms of total reliability
and cost.
The first OE application on MAN's new D20 engine was announced jointly at
the 2004 IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hannover, Germany. The first OE
application in a diesel passenger car followed in the beginning of 2005.
Available retrofit applications include diesel passenger cars offered by major
OEMs and trucks through Twin-Tec.
Emitec GmbH is the leading designer and manufacturer of metallic
