AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- A new, V-8 engine designed
and developed by DaimlerChrysler for the new, top-of-the-line Mercedes SLK 55
AMG will be showcased by FEV at the 2005 SAE World Congress in Detroit, Mich.,
April 11-14 at Cobo Center.
Mercedes-AMG GmbH developed the high performance engine, with FEV managing
calibration and knock-control mapping, as well as calibration of drivability
and diagnostic functions. FEV also participated in performance tests in
Sweden, Spain, South Africa and the United States.
The 360-bhp output and 376 foot-pounds of torque that are generated by the
SLK are unmatched by any other model in this vehicle class. The V-8 engine is
the only eight-cylinder unit available in this market segment.
"We worked very hard to help AMG showcase an engine that befits this
magnificent vehicle," says Gary Rogers, FEV president and chief executive
officer. "AMG means high performance all over the world, and FEV is thrilled
to be part of it."
The culmination of years of development effort, the 5.5-liter engine for
the AMG-SLK is not only powerful but also environmentally friendly. It meets
European EU4 and the U.S. LEV II emissions standards.
