ANDERSON, Ind., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Remy International, Inc.,
announced that it has resolved a dispute with Automotive Import
Manufacturing (AIM), Inc. of Rancho Cordova, CA concerning certain U.S.
Patents owned or licensed by Remy which protect its proprietary automotive
alternator and starter motor technology.
Under terms of the settlement, AIM has agreed to purchase all of its
new PG-260 starters from approved Remy supply channels. AIM has also made a
settlement payment to Remy and has acknowledged the Remy starter patents.
This settlement reflects Remy aggressively protecting its proprietary
technology from unauthorized uses.
Remy's legal action has been brought amidst growing concern with the
increasing manufacture and/or importation of patent-infringing products
into United States markets. Infringing companies are channeling new
"knock-off" parts into both the automotive aftermarket, which has
traditionally used remanufactured products, and the original equipment
market.
John Weber, President and CEO of Remy International, stated,
"counterfeit and patent-infringing components and assemblies continue to be
a major problem for the automotive and industrial industries. The copied
products may look like the patent owner's designs but typically do not meet
the design specifications in terms of functionality, quality and
durability. Remy in particular is very proud of our engineering
capabilities and the performance of our products, as represented by our
well-recognized brand. Remy will aggressively defend its intellectual
property against infringement to the fullest extent of the law, regardless
of the magnitude of the infraction."
