GCSS-Army Potentially Largest Single Effort in Company's History
VIENNA, Va., April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- GRC International (NYSE: GRH) today
announced it is the prime integrator for the first tier of the United States
Army's Global Combat Support System (GCSS-Army). "This is an important
milestone in positioning the company for future growth," said GRC
International CEO Jim Roth. "What started last year as a $250,000 technical
analysis for us has grown to an $11.9 million commitment to date. If we
continue to perform on this program at the same high level that we have
historically and the Army continues its funding, we believe this effort could
grow to a $20-to-$30 million engagement next year."
When completed, GCSS-Army will be a seamless, integrated, modular, and
interactive combat support system for all force support levels of the U.S.
Army. This state-of-the-art client/server-based system will enable Army
commanders to accurately, securely, and comprehensively access data to
mobilize, deploy, sustain, and redeploy forces on a global scale. Members of
the GRCI-led team include Advanced Communications Systems, CALIBRE Systems
Inc., GTE, Innovative Logistics Techniques Inc., Invictus System Corp., Oracle
Corp., and U. S. Army Software Development Center-Ft. Lee.
GCSS-Army is a project of PEO STAMIS and PM ILOGS (Program Executive
Office, Standard Army Management Information Systems and Program Manager,
Integrated Logistics Systems). It will integrate the Army's legacy logistics
systems and reengineer their processes to provide greater asset visibility.
The Tier 1 effort, led by GRCI, focuses on logistics system development from
the warehouse to the field, or "retail logistics." Using shared data in a
distributed environment, the GRCI team will employ up-to-date technologies in
the system, reengineer existing functionality in 14 stand-alone legacy systems
into six new modules, employ Windows NT-based graphical user interfaces, and
comply with Department of Defense and Department of Army standards.
"This effort establishes GRC International as a prime systems integrator
and demonstrates that we can successfully compete with larger information
technology companies, win major contract awards, and -- most importantly --
perform at the high level our customers expect and demand," said GRCI
President Gary Denman. "This win also demonstrates that we have responded to
the changing procurement practices in the government, which can lead to
further operating efficiencies for us and greater value to our customers. Our
focus on satisfying the customer through solid technical solutions and
innovative business arrangements for this important and highly visible Army
effort is a model of how we will market our services to the federal government
in the future."
